One Semester Project

Motion Graphics is animated graphic design that can combine two or more of the following: text, iconography illustration, video with sound (always). Projects are typically informational in nature and output as a video file.

First Review: Project Definition

1 - 2 Sentence Log Line

  • genre
  • target audience

  • emotional connection
  • Example log line: "In this Storybook Tablet App, three road construction toys, just children themselves, come to life and help each other work through typical emotional trials and tribulations. We aim to teach kids, ages 3-6, how to understand their emotions and move past feelings like frustration and anger to feelings of joy, laughter and purpose."

Function

  • Minimum 3 benchmarks for great writing that are similar to your project - screen shots with links
  • Script outline (1-2 paragraphs)
  • Production method: 2D, 3D, Stop-motion, video (Include pixel dimensions)

Finished Storyboards

  • Include all scenes (plus title & credits scenes)
  • Design scenes at the correct pixel dimensions (1280 x 720) (1080 x 1920)
  • Include detailed notes for voice and sound
  • Pay attention to visual hierarchy

Brand

  • Perform a differentiation search and list at least 3 other benchmarks that are already in your conceptual space. Show screenshots of them (and link if avail.)
  • Describe how you will differentiate your concept and make it memorable

Aesthetics

  • Minimum 3 benchmarks utilizing designs that will create similar / player emotions - screen shots with links


Second Review: Story Design

Storyboard Revisions

  • Include all scenes (& a credits scene)

Finished Color Layouts Of Selected Scenes

  • Include 2-3 of the most complex scenes
  • Don't place in animation timeline yet
  • Design screens at the correct pixel dimensions for animation
  • Pay attention to visual hierarchy
  • Check color shift and contrast and adjust to work on a variety of computer displays (create jpegs screens for the tests)

  • Allow them to edit your document directly
  • Write your own notes based on their verbal feedback
  • Copy and paste notes from email or other correspondence
  • Include any visual image mark-ups (place them directly in the document)


Third Review: Design

Finished Color Layouts Of All Scenes

  • Complete the design for all scenes
  • Don't place in timeline yet yet
  • Design screens at the correct pixel dimensions for animation
  • Pay attention to visual hierarchy
  • Check color shift and contrast and adjust to work on a variety of computer displays (create jpegs screens for the tests)

Fourth Review: Content Production

All Design Imported & Blocked

  • Set up the scene AE compositions or Flash internal scenes
  • Place all art into the timelines
  • Export video for review (don't show in Aftereffects Timeline)
  • Block (spread) the assets along the timeline to get ready for animation

50% Of All Animation Completed

Sound Plan And Synced Audio Completed

  • Make a Sound Design Plan
  • Record all voice and any other audio that requires syncing to visual

Animation Completed And Published As A Lossless Compression Video

  • Complete PDF or Google Doc pitch that includes all planning and art production elements listed above.
  • 100% quality ProRes or mpeg4 video
