A mobile Story Book or Informational App for the ipad or Android market? Develop using the KCAD DM Flash Framework that utilize Adobe Air to publish apps for iOS, Android and the Web simultaneously.

FIRST REVIEW: PROJECT DEFINITION

1ST SEMESTER

1 - 2 SENTENCE LOG LINE

  • genre

  • Example log line: "In this Storybook Tablet App, three road construction toys, just children themselves, come to life and help each other work through typical emotional trials and tribulations. We aim to teach kids, ages 3-6, how to understand their emotions and move past feelings like frustration and anger to feelings of joy, laughter and purpose."

FUNCTION

  • Minimum 3 benchmarks with great UX or story that is similar to yours - screen shots with links
  • Interview Potential Users (optional)
  • Content Map or Story Script
  • Thumbnail Wireframe layouts or Storyboards

BRAND

  • Perform a differentiation search and list at least 3 other benchmarks that are already in your conceptual space. Show screenshots of them (and link if avail.)
  • Describe how you will differentiate your concept and make it memorable

AESTHETICS

  • Minimum 3 benchmarks utilizing designs that will create similar emotions - screen shots with links

SECOND REVIEW: UX OR STORY DESIGN

1ST SEMESTER

FINISHED WIREFRAMES OR STORYBOARDS

  • Include all screens or pages (& a credits page)
  • Design screens at the correct pixel dimensions (1024 x 600)
  • Include detailed notes for interactivity and animation
  • Pay attention to layout conventions & visual hierarchy

ADD COMMITTEE NOTES TO JOURNAL (OPTIONS BELOW)

  • Allow them to edit your document directly
  • Write your own notes based on their verbal feedback
  • Copy and paste notes from email or other correspondence
  • Include any visual image mark-ups (place them directly in the document)

THIRD REVIEW: DESIGN

1ST SEMESTER (2nd review for 1 semester project)

FINISHED COLOR LAYOUTS OF SELECTED SCREENS OR PAGES

  • Include 2-3 of the most complex screens or pages with the GUI
  • Don't place in interactive environment yet
  • Design screens at the correct pixel dimensions 1024 x 600
  • Design and integrate any content or illustrations needed to complete the screens
  • Pay attention to layout conventions & visual hierarchy
  • Check color shift and contrast and adjust to work on a variety of computer displays (create jpegs screens for the tests)
  • Show the screens / pages in a tablet

IMPORT, BLOCKING & NAVIGATION

ALL VISUAL ASSETS IMPORTED & BLOCKED

  • Configure the pages, timelines & movieClips
  • Place all into the KCAD DM Framework
  • Block (spread) the assets along the timeline to get ready for animation & navigation development (the next phase)
  • Pay attention to layout conventions & visual hierarchy
  • Check color shift and contrast and adjust to work on a variety of computer displays (create jpegs screens for the tests)

ALL SCREENS, PAGES AND INTERACTIVE BITS SHOULD BE NAVIGABLE

  • Test every button form every possible screen
  • Make sure that any timeline space needed for animation is extended

SECOND REVIEW :2ND SEMESTER

ANIMATION & SOUND DESIGN

(4th review for 1 semester project)

SOUND PLAN AND SYNCED AUDIO COMPLETED

  • Make a Sound Design Plan
  • Record all voice and any other audio that requires syncing to visuals

50% OF ALL ANIMATION COMPLETED

  • Perform ongoing testing of the navigation to insure the animation is not breaking it

THIRD REVIEW: 2ND SEMESTER

ANIMATION & SOUND DESIGN

ALL SOUND DESIGN ASSETS COMPLETED

  • Environment, Foley, Score, Theme

100% OF ALL ANIMATION COMPLETED

  • Perform ongoing testing of the navigation to insure the animation is not breaking it

FOURTH REVIEW: 2ND SEMESTER

SOUND DESIGN INTEGRATION,

HTML EMBED & DEVICE TESTING

(Final review for 1 semester project)

  • Voice, Environment, Foley, Score, Theme
  • Mixed with effective hierarchies

EMBED SWF INTO AN HTML WEB PAGE

  • Create a custom color or image background that frames the app well.

DEVICE TESTING

  • Complete PDF or Google Doc pitch that includes all planning and art production elements listed above.
