Dr. Matthias Katzfuss is seeking a postdoctoral research associate at the Department of Statistics at University of Wisconsin–Madison. The research is related to one or more of the following areas:
nonlinear, high-dimensional filtering (data assimilation) using variational normalizing flows
calibration and analysis of expensive geophysical models (e.g., climate models)
geospatial analysis of massive satellite data
scalable probabilistic machine learning using Gaussian processes
The position is designed as a career-building step for a junior scholar, with the development of a research program as a focus. The postdoc will be trained in conducting and presenting research, publishing papers, and creating software for wide dissemination of the research.
UW–Madison is a highly ranked research institution. The Department of Statistics is undergoing a rapid expansion as part of the university's substantial investment in data science and AI, which includes a new building and the new College of Computing and AI. The department is home to the Data Science major, the university's fastest-growing major.
