The goal of our project was to build and program a robot from scratch to compete and sumo wrestle opponent robots. (We affectionately named our robot Doomba!)
My role in this incredible team project involved researching and editing the Arduino C++ program for the robot to perform according to commands from the Dabble bluetooth control app. Furthermore, I was involved in using CAD software (Onshape) to design our base, configuring our hardware setup (Arduino Uno board, bread board, bluetooth module, L298N motor drivers), and soldering wires together to reduce dependency on the bread board. Finally, I aided our team in sourcing materials within the budget, planning team meetings, and creating a timeline for our progress.
I worked alongside Giovanna Curry with communicating and testing the program to resolve command issues, wiring complications, and wheel inactivity. Laura Price and I collaborated on the robot's platform and hardware layout. As a group, we fulfilled weekly communication, organized extensive documentation of research and results, and maintained consistent progress in the midst of the rigorous demands of our independent coursework.
We achieved a successful outcome of participating in the semi-finals of the Fall 2023 Sumobot Competition.
