It's SOX Managers and Testers' job to ensure their company is addressing risk to the business. One of the ways they prove their company is actually addressing risk is to test controls in place. In the process of testing, SOX managers and testers create new requests each year to gather evidence from business users.
There were two ways to do this in the system: 1) By creating requests individually (by copying an existing request or creating a request from a test of control form); or 2) By bulk creating requests by working with Workiva support staff to import the data into their workspace.
While the bulk process may seem simplier, it required users to lay all the information out in a spreadsheet template, check for manual errors, send it to Workiva support staff, and wait 7-10 days for the information to appear in their workspace.
Our SOX Managers and testers were frustrated with bulk creating requests because the process was time-consuming, tedious, error-prone, and the timeline was out of their control.
My proposed minimum viable product was self-sufficient import tool that allowed customers the ability to create requests in bulk by importing a spreadsheet or by copying existing requests.
✔️ Eliminated the year-over-year 219+ hours PSMs were putting toward customer support on bulk PBC imports in SOX
✔️ Eliminated the recurring $10,403 in support costs attributed to PBC imports
✔️ 20%+ of customers using requests import within 6 months of general adoption in production accounts
