I am on the clock all of the time. I am in demand and I do feel a responsibility because my job is people, not tasks, and I care about people. So, I'm managing my time as effectively as I can while still caring for myself and the other responsibilities in my life.
When we work for minimum wage waitressing at four bucks an hour, then a new job making twenty, and then have a salaried career there's a thing that happens at each transition point. When we walk away, we think "I'm worth this many bucks an hour" and once we know that we're worth that amount to someone, we can't go back to accepting less. Once we've been acknowledged for our value we don't accept less than our worth.
In fact, I was thinking about this very thing when I was walking down Burnham Harbor and saw this red and white yacht that was absolutely gorgeous and I said, "If I was a yacht that one would be me!" and almost instantly I wondered, "Hey, if I was a yacht how much would I be worth?" And so I went and and looked into that, and you know they told me they don't schedule for less than 90 minutes because it's not worth the time taking the boat out or the cost of gas, there's a minimum of five and no more than eight people because that's the break even point and the sweet spot even though the vessel capacity is 12.
I sat there on Lake Michigan and figured out all of the figures as if I were that yacht. I have gas in my tank just like the yacht does and I have the ability to hold a certain capacity and no more than that. So, through curiosity about that gorgeous yacht is how I figured out my rate and, and my tolerance So, am I worth more than an afternoon on the yacht? Hell Yeah.
