Kaspersky is a free, online antivirus program that is used to detect and report all types of malware, spyware, and viruses. It allows you to see what kind of viruses are getting through your system and decide if your computer's antivirus is effectively eliminating them or not. At the end of the scan, the program lists any infections that it has come across on your PC.

The scanner window will open in your web browser. Read the User Agreement, and click Accept. (If you're using Internet Explorer, you will be asked to download an Active X control, which you should do.)

I suppose there is an outside chance it's a filesystem error that's killing the scan, try doing chkdsk /r on your c drive and see if that helps. If not it may be that you've picked up something nasty that's killing kaspersky and you might want to try running the scan from safe mode.

There's one other obvious possibility...you're infected by a virus that is actively causing Kaspersky to fail. I'd suggest downloading a second virus scanner, running that to see what happens (Make sure to uninstall afterwords...the only thing that slows your PC down more than an antivirus is TWO antivirus apps)

Internet connections are getting faster every day, so online antivirus solutions transformed from proof of concepts into actual quality security services. Lately I have been playing with some leading online antivirus products and here are my thoughts.

As you can see from the image above, the user interface is compact and it looks much better than the other online virus scanners I checked previously. The whole left portion of the application window is related to the actual scanning process, while on the right you have product marketing links, as well as an entrance to the Kaspersky virus encyclopedia.

While most computer users would probably agree that having a resident antivirus solution installed is a must in these days and age, especially on Windows, there is little to argue about the usefulness of complementing online scanners.

One interesting feature of Kaspersky VirusDesk is the option to "disagree with the scan". This is probably most useful to software authors who have had their program identified as a threat by the scanner. They may submit the file using the disagree option so that it is analyzed further by Kaspersky Labs.

Kaspersky VirusDesk is a handy online service to scan files or links quickly for threats. The service is let down somewhat by the relatively low maximum file size it supports. Webmasters and software authors on the other hand may find it useful to deal with false positives that Kaspersky may identify in sites or programs.

Kaspersky has an excellent antivirus scanner and some pretty good web protections. It caught all the malware samples I downloaded in my tests, and its anti-phishing protection detected most of the risky sites I tried visiting.

That said, I still believe Kaspersky Plus and Premium security suites are effective overall. These suites offer a high-quality antivirus scanner, useful features, and reasonable prices. Kaspersky comes with a good antivirus scanner and a ton of additional features that can significantly boost your online safety. For example, it offers really good anti-phishing protection to prevent you from visiting dangerous websites, parental controls to keep your kids safe online, and a pretty decent VPN to keep your browsing data private.

Yes, there are online scanning services such as the popular VirusTotal and Metadefender from OPSWAT that scan files using over fifty antivirus engines, including Kaspersky. But if you would like to scan a file just with Kaspersky antivirus engine, you can use the official Kaspersky VirusDesk service.

Kaspersky VirusDesk is a free online scan service from Kaspersky. With VirusDesk, you can scan files and website links for viruses. Currently, the Kaspersky VirusDesk supports files of up to 50 MB in size.

Virustotal is a free online antivirus to check links for malware, trojans and phishing. The scanner uses such bases like Ad Aware, Avast, Avira and others. In addition, VIrustotal provides users with detailed reports on links and websites (domains) it has checked.

Online website scanner Doctor Web is the same as other web scanners, the only thing that differs is that ordinary Dr. Web databases are used for checking. You can install Dr. Web Link Checker browser extension to check sites for viruses on a regular basis.

Kaspersky was founded in Russia in 1997 and the company has built a strong reputation in the online security space. It must be noted that some privacy enthusiasts are wary of Kaspersky due to alleged links with the Russian government.

I also ran a quick scan to see how this performed. The quick scan is a mini version of the full antivirus scanner. It does not check all the files on a machine but looks at the most likely places to find malware. McAfee detected none of the samples in quick scan mode. The quick scan mode on Kaspersky also failed to detect any of the samples.

The latest available Malware Protection Test from AV-Comparatives was published in September 2021. In the Malware Protection Test, viruses are on network drives and USB sticks and the malware scanner searches these drives for viruses. Another benchmark called Real-World Protection incorporates online threats to evaluate how well the entire suite works, not just the malware engine. I will look also look at the AV-Comparatives Real-World test from July-October 2021.

In the Real World Protection test, McAfee also came out on top, protecting against 99.8 percent of online threats. The remaining 0.2 percent were user-dependent, meaning the user was given a choice to allow or block the threat. Kaspersky blocked 99.9 percent of online threats, with the remaining 0.1 percent resulting in the machine being compromised.
