This evening I launched Google Chrome dashboard, and I got a notification that Kaspersky had stopped a malicious download. While I'm greatful that it had stopped the download, I have to assume that my computer is compromised, right? I conducted a few full scans by both Kaspersky and Windows Defender, and they found nothing. I haven't had another download happen yet, but I'm unsure on how to check if I'm 100% safe at this point.

Can I get some help or advice on what to check for next? Thanks for all the help in advance!

I am really struggling to fix the issue that I am facing and I am unable to get any information for my issue on the internet. To further discuss my problem, I have a CLOSED network that does not connect to the internet. I usually download updates using the Kaspersky Update Utility and then manually copy the updates on a local folder in C driver and then distribute them to all my clients using the KSC update task. I had installed Kaspersky 10 about 3 years ago and everything was working fine up until a few months ago. Whenever I tried to copy the updates to my administrative server I would get some errors "Failed to translate the component KDBD" etc, there were many components that failed and the Task "Download updates to the administrative server repository" passed but the message was not all components have been updated or if I tried again I would get a message Update task has completed. A file necessary for the database update is missing from the update source". Hence I decided, that it was time to upgrade to KSC 14. I updated it and to my utter dismay I was receiving the same issue. So then I tried to troubleshoot myself by the following means;

5) I removed KSC on my test environment and reinstalled it, downloaded the updates and it worked. I was momentarily happy until I tried to replicate what I did on my test network to my live network. For some reason the live network does not like me and decided to throw the same translate error again. This the time I started pulling my hair out because now I have a broken KSC with all my settings lost (obviously I had a backup but the backup is useless as it fails to translate for some reason.

7) The I said to myself, let me try it again as it worked on the test environment why are the same steps on working on the live environment. Different day same result, even worse, now when I copy updates to my C drive it gives me file download error. I am doing the exact same thing that I have been doing for 3 years. I copy the updates from my internet machine and paste it in a shares folder on C drive and then use the task download updates to the repository but now I can do even that. At this time I was becoming partially bald with all my hair pulled out.

With any browser (Chrome, Firefox, Edge) but also with 3rd party file downloading software, whenever that module is on (I have tried changing any of its internal settings with no changes) this is what happens:

One thing I am fairly sure about, is that the issue comes from downloads on port 80/443, because it is NOT related to the browser: even if I use the free software wget (to make a copy of a website) the issue is exactly the same.

is this problem still present ? my kaspersky is still at the version 21.1.15.500 (c) , thinking about download and install the 21.2.16.590 on top , but if this problem is still not fixed better i avoid it until a new version be realeased that fix it , thanks if someone can clarify to me the situation

I turned off my Kaspersky Internet Security and my Windows Firewall, then downloaded and installed CCS 6.1.3.00033. When I turned my internet security and Firewall back on I received this message: "Detected PDM: Trojan Win32 Generic. Location: f:\ti\ccsv6\eclipse\ccstudio.exe. Disinfect and restart computer." Also got a window whose Title Bar said "Rundll: rundll32.exe bad image" and the body of the window said: "C:Windows\system32\MSCTF.dll is not a valid Windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette."

OK, Here's what happens, at least with Kaspersky anti-virus: After installation, the first time you run CCS, additional components are downloaded from the internet. Kaspersky anti-virus must be turned off the first time you use CCS because the ant-virus recognizes these downloaded components and then finds ccstudio.exe and deletes it because it thinks it's a Trojan. The operator has no choice in the matter, ccstudio.exe gets deleted.

After analyzing all components in the chain, we wanted to find out how the infected Debian package was distributed to victims. We checked the official website of Free Download Manager (freedownloadmanager[.]org). Packages available for download from this website turned out to be hosted on the files2.freedownloadmanager[.]org domain, and they were not backdoored.

All these posts on social networks made us think that the malicious Debian package could have been distributed via a supply chain attack, through the freedownloadmanager[.]org website. So, we decided to look for further facts that could prove or disprove this claim.

The Bew backdoor has been analyzed multiple times, and one of its first descriptions was published in 2014. Additionally, in 2017, CERN posted information about the BusyWinman campaign that involved usage of Bew. According to CERN, Bew infections were carried out through drive-by downloads.

Hello Mr. Kucherin and Mr. Bezvershenko,

We would be grateful if you could reach out to us regarding the issue described in your article. Please email us at support@freedownloadmanager.org. We appreciate your cooperation.

Any reason why Visual Studio download web address is showing as dangerous and totally blocking us from downloading it? Is it safe to bypass and download it? Or, any other known issues which I am unaware of?

The download must be made through university network connection, i.e. WiFi SSID=CUHK1x, CUHK VPN, CUHK wired network in departments, classrooms / LTs (ClassNet). If you are connecting to non-CUHK network, please set up and connect to CUHK VPN before the download.

As you'd expect, Kaspersky Antivirus & VPN protects your device from whatever virus might try to attack, scanning applications before you download them and blocking you from accessing dangerous websites.

Also, I see where I can download OpenVPN configuration package download for Windows, Non- Windows, and Smart phone. If I would go with the Netgear VPN do I have to have these configuration packages downloaded to all devices? I thought if I have a VPN on my routher that I don't have to have anything downloaded to every device, that as long as the device is connected to the router that that device is protected. Please help.
