GETTING STARTED
Add your car by VIN. Type the 17-character VIN and Karnos fills in the year, make, model and engine. The VIN is on the driver's door jamb, the bottom of the windshield, and your insurance card. You can also just type the details yourself VIN lookup is optional and the app works with no network at all.
Enter your current mileage. Karnos uses your readings to learn how much you drive, then predicts when each service is actually due not just a date on a calendar.
HOW SERVICE REMINDERS WORK
Every service item can be tracked by mileage, by time, or by whichever comes first. Karnos estimates your current odometer from your reading history, so an oil change due in 5,000 miles shows a real date based on your own driving. Items marked "est." are date estimates projected from mileage.
Until Karnos has about two weeks of readings it uses a national-average driving rate. Add a couple of readings and the estimate becomes yours.
UPDATING MILEAGE
Tap Update mileage on the dashboard. You do not need a fuel-up or a service record to log a reading. You can back-date any reading everything recalculates from the dates, not the order you entered things.
If a reading is lower than one you already have, Karnos saves it anyway and shows a gentle note. Nothing is rejected and nothing breaks. You can fix or delete any reading in History.
RECALLS
Recall campaigns come from the public NHTSA database and are listed by year, make and model. That means they show open campaigns for your vehicle's model Karnos cannot confirm whether your specific car is affected or already repaired. Your dealer can, using your VIN, free of charge.
FINDING A GARAGE, DEALER, PARTS, CAR WASH OR FUEL
The Nearby screen hands a search term to your maps app. Results come from your maps provider, ranked by distance and rating Karnos does not sponsor, rank, or take payment from any business. To reach a dealer's service department, open the dealership in Maps and use its listed phone number.
YOUR DATA
Everything is stored on your device. There is no account, no sign-up, no ads, no analytics.
Because your data lives only on your device, deleting the app deletes your data. Before you change phones, use Back up now in Settings, and export your service history as CSV. Export is free and always will be you should never have to pay to leave an app.
TROUBLESHOOTING
VIN lookup fails. Check for 17 characters. A VIN never contains the letters I, O or Q those are usually 1 and 0. Very new or imported vehicles may not be in the NHTSA database; enter the details manually.
A due date looks wrong. Check the last-done mileage and date on that service item, and check History for a mistyped reading. One bad entry can skew the estimate; delete it and the projection corrects itself immediately.
Nothing appears under Recalls. Recalls need a year, make and model on the vehicle. Add them on the vehicle screen.
DISCLAIMER
Karnos is a record-keeping and reminder tool. Its default service intervals are common industry values, not manufacturer figures. Always follow your owner's manual and your mechanic's advice for your specific vehicle.
