Karel Svoboda, PhD
I am the Director of the Neural Dynamics unit at the Allen Institute. My interests lie at the intersection of neuronal biophysics and cognition. A current focus is to identify core principles and mechanisms underlying information processing in brain-wide neural circuits in the context of foraging behaviors, planning, and execution of voluntary movements.
I also have long-standing interests in developing new molecular, optical and computational methods to map neural circuits and interrogate neural function in intact brains.
I received a PhD in Biophysics (1994) from Harvard University. I worked at Bell Laboratories (until 1997), Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (until 2006), and HHMI’s Janelia Research Campus (until 2021).
