Yiannis Kantaros

Assistant Professor

Dept. of Electrical and Systems Engineering,

Washington University in St. Louis (WashU)

Biography

I am an Assistant Professor in the ESE Department at Washington University in St. Louis. Before joining WashU, I was a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Computer and Information Science (GRASP and PRECISE lab) at the University of Pennsylvania working with Dr. George J. Pappas and Dr. Insup Lee.  I received the M.Sc. and the Ph.D. degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science from Duke University, Durham, NC, in September 2017 and May 2018, respectively under the supervision of Dr. Michael M. Zavlanos. I also received the Diploma in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Patras, Greece in July 2012.

Research Interests

My research lies in the field of distributed and safe robot autonomy. Specifically, my work focuses on the interplay between perception and sensing, communication-aware control, and learning and control aiming to design autonomous multi-robot systems that are safe, efficient, and robust to uncertainties with lifelong learning capabilities. My work relies on tools and theory drawn from distributed robotics, distributed control, distributed optimization, machine learning, and formal methods-based control.
