So..as the title says, I want to record a Kannada audio book. I know lots of people who want to read books from particular Kannada authors but don't have a decent reading grasp over the language. A few of my friends even picked up English translations of Kannada books because they had heard so much about a book (Parva) but felt sad that the translation didn't do justice. I can think of several passages in Kannada books that simply cannot be translated into English. For example, a Goodreads user had mentioned how AK Ramanujan had translated an Anathmurthy book word for word. Shiv pooje madhya kardi bandante was translated as "Like a bear interrupting Shiva's Worship." You get it.

I will record a small book for starters. Something like Carvalho, Samskara or Chomana Dudi..something under 150-200 pages. Also, is this legal in India? The books I've mentioned were written ~40 years ago.

The CHIDAKASHA GITA is the compilation of precious words of Bhagwan Nityananda of Ganeshpuri and Kanhangad spoken in elevated states of consciousness, which was written and compiled by Tulsi Amma in Kannada language, which later was translated into English, Hindi, Malayalam, and other languages. Efforts have been made by Swami Vijayananda to take the teachings and elaborate it extensively with reference to many other precious teachings of the Avadhootas, the liberated ones. The Kannada Pustaka project was developed with the intention of providing free audio textbooks in Kannada to students with blindness and visual impairment between Class 1 and 10. The project was started in September 2015 by Rakesh Tiwari who is a scientist at Leeds University in England, Shantala who is a teacher specialising in teaching science and math to students with blindness, and Ramesh Babu who is a multimedia expert. Since 2015, the project had been progressing at a slow pace, but, when the pandemic struck India in 2020, the founders accelerated the work understanding the necessity of such audio books.

The team has also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Karnataka Textbook Society to gain access to their original textbook material to speed up the process. Currently, the project has successfully created a library with audio books of First Language Kannada, Sociology, Economics, Political Science, Social Science for Class 9 and 10. It also has chapters for second PU Kannada, History and Sociology. Students can listen to the audio textbooks for free at the Kannada Pustaka website or through Google Podcasts.

Ramesh Babu believes that this project will provide students with blindness and visual impairment the ability to study better. He also believes that the audio textbooks will help other students, as it is convenient to listen to the books whenever or wherever they want. e24fc04721
