Welcome to the KANG Lab!
The Synthetic Biology and Bioprocess Engineering Lab at Kyung Hee University (KHU) is an innovative research group dedicated to developing synthetic biology and bioprocess engineering strategies to address global environmental and resource challenges. Our research explores diverse microorganisms, with a particular focus on yeast, microalgae, and bacteria, as platforms for sustainable biomanufacturing. By engineering these microbial systems, we develop synthetic biology tools, metabolic pathway optimization strategies, and advanced cultivation/fermentation processes to enable efficient conversion of renewable carbon sources. Our ultimate goal is the valorization of CO₂, methane, and other C1 substrates into valuable bioproducts, ranging from fuels and chemicals to sustainable industrial materials. In addition, we are also interested in creating more economical and sustainable processes for producing high-value materials, including pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals, and advanced biomaterials.
