I don't know the market, so I don't know if my type of fanarts can interest anyone, but it's something I can do, so why not offer it? Even if for now I only have one style and due to all my limitations I'm keeping this cheap. This page will be updated the more I learn, I'm currently also trying pet portraits.
This is a long page because it's a huge expense (for my standards) and requires a lot of attention.
Fictional characters: For now I can only copy from images, at best adding some details (if given references for them) and adjusting colors and brightness, but not changing poses or clothing. It will be their face down to the waist or less. There will be examples below.
It doesn't have to be a canon character, it could be a mix from images of a face you like + hair from some other reference image to make an oc. I'll do my best to adjust everything to your character's likeness/add things for them. If the body is from another photo, first we'll need to see if I can make the pieces work together.
It could also be a photo of a real person, including yourself.
Dogs, cats, potentially other pets, same as above when it comes to being the same as the original photo and needing a big photo in good quality so I can actually distinguish the animal's fur/parts.
The paintings will not be perfectly identical to the photo because they are meant to be a painting. It seems unnecessary to basically make another photo for you when you already have the original.
I will not make you pay less if I can't copy every strand of hair, that's to be expected and on purpose anyway.
I'll show you progress if you give me a way to contact you and send you pics from my phone. So you can also object to things unless they are just a rough draft and will be changed anyway, and know that I'm working on it.
-Not doing porn/full nudity, gore, and things I may be uncomfortable with that I can't think of now. Sexy is fine. Animal elements are fine (like ears), full furry isn't something I know how to do, probably (yet). No judgment from me no matter what you ask, this is just about my abilities, it's not my business what you like.
Send me a message on tumblr or on instagram to see if I'm free or when I'll be free to do this commission.
The reference photos have to be big and high quality (no less than 2000px, bigger if possible) so that I can zoom in on their face without it becoming a bunch of pixels impossible to understand (this way I can also make a painting bigger than the image; the important thing is not to lose all the information when zooming in or adding a bit of light if it's in the shadows), and they must either be bright or it has to be possible to brighten them up if they are extremely dark. So I need their face to be close to the camera: if it's super tiny and dark, when I zoom in and brighten it I already know the eyes and lips will become a bunch of pixels and it will be very out of focus in the portrait as well.
If you disappear, like I send you a message to check if something is fine by you or you asked for a change but you don't get back to me within 10 days, I will put the work on hold because I don't know if it's a permanent disappearance. If you keep not responding for weeks I will probably finish it and sell it in my shops, especially if by then I've done most of the work, unless it's a private portrait. No reimburse in this case either. Only a partial one if I had just started because I'll have still lost time waiting and not taking commissions.
I'm not going to be constantly bothering you, don't worry, this is 'just in case' and a 'just started/about to end' thing.
For example I'll show you the changes to the original photo if there are any, before I use it as reference, like if I need to brighten it or if you want me to make it a bit different (example: add a purple light), so I'm sure I'm not going against your wishes. We may have to exchange discords because it will make easier to send each other big images, if you don't have it we'll come up with something.
My discord for commissions is kalipinna#8504 but I don't usually log in until I've a reason to, so send me messages on tumblr or instagram/via email first!
Now this is the hard part because sometimes it takes me two weeks to finish and sometimes a full month, depending on how complicated the photo is and how I'm feeling. So I'm going to say at least a month and a half per character, up to two if you added many changes to the original image, but it may be done in two weeks anyway, I just want to play it safe. I'll keep you updated!
Option one: The painting will be given to you in digital form, and you'll be free to print it wherever you'd like (but not to sell it. It can be a gift to someone, though!). Which means that unless asked otherwise, I'll make a really big one, so it can be printed on canvas, and that's also why a big reference image is important. There will be a signature somewhere.
Option two: Or if you prefer, instead of sending you the digital file I can add it to one of my shops instead, either Redbubble or Society6 or both, and it will be directly linked to you so you can buy it from there and have it sent to you when already printed on something. I'll need time to adapt the image to the products' shapes. In that case I'll ask for at least 70% of the price I'd have asked you for the digital version alone, because if you go on and buy something like a notebook I'll get less than 5 euros from the whole thing.
[So like, a base painting of a character on print on demand shop: 35 euros instead of 50.
A painting of a character + adding animal ears + slightly different hair: 49 euros instead of 70.]
In this situation I'll also publicize the products via social media to try to get back the difference in money.
If it's a canon character (or an oc but I'll ask permission for that) I'll make a small copy of the image for social media to publicize my work, with a big watermark on it so no one can have the original but you. If it's personal, like a portrait for your mom, obviously I won't post it.
I also ask you to either not crop out my signature or to write as a caption who did it if you want to post it online (I'm kalipinna pretty much everywhere, but on tumblr I'm also fandomele, so @ me) so people can find me and ask for one too!
I offer my paintings for 50 euros* for each character you'd like, as in the base version with no additions to the original photo, and we can discuss backgrounds going from plain solid color/gradients to having decorations in them and quotes.
Unless we go with the "posting on print on demand shops" route, which I discussed above and changes the price to 70%.
If I can't replicate something, like a specific dress type, and you want me to continue, I will obviously lower the price (in the Yennefer painting, which you'll see below, it would have been for 40 euros instead of 50 because I had to remove the dress type). I'll try to figure out as soon as possible if there is something I cannot do like Yennefer's dress, and talk to you about it: if you want to take back the order, I'll understand!
There will be a +20 euros charge if you want me to add an element or two from another photo, which should be provided by you or I can show you possible examples from my go-to websites. +10 euros for more than two elements. They will take me longer because I'll have to figure out how to make them fit in, shadows etc.
I'm not against adding animal elements like cute ears like I said before, or trying to pull off an elven look, but the clothing will not be terribly complicated.
You can ask for up to two minor edits for free after I'm done. Meaning: I'll send the file to you after you pay in full, you think something is wrong so I take it back, change what you don't like, send it to you, then you can send it back to me one more time. After that it will be 15 euro for every change. I'll take a max of 5-6 edits.
If the edit is a major one like you don't like their entire hairstyle, it will be +15 euros from the beginning.
*Normally people ask 50 euros for a sketch, usually not even colored and surely not shaded, but you can see my limitations and that's why I'm sticking with that for now.
However you choose to pay, if you add a reason/cause for it then write that you are doing it to support me, my art or my dogs, as if you are donating the money without receiving anything in return! Don't make it sound like you are buying stuff.
This to avoid a misunderstanding with the authorities here, who may think I have a secret business and I'm hiding thousands of dollars behind this operation (I wish!), and in any case they'd want me to have a business license even for something like iconing, which would cost me 3000+ euros + taxes per year. Our laws allow me to do this without a license even if it's copyrighted when it's for one person, but it would be so hard to explain.
You can pay me via paypal.me or ko-fi, but if it's on ko-fi I'll have to ask you for 10% more to make up for paypal fees. Use any currency you want, paypal will eventually turn it into euros (as long as you check on google how much is it in your currency).
My ko-fi is ko-fi.com/kalipinna, and I'll give you my paypal privately.
I ask for half of the money in advance, the rest after I show you proof that I've finished (a photo of the open folder on my phone, probably). Then you pay.
If something happens like my computer breaking or me being hospitalized and I can't go on, I'll reimburse you completely unless you are willing to wait. If I realize I can't do the painting for some reason that I can't even imagine right now (but life is weird), I'l reimburse you completely. If it's gone because something permanent happened to my computer, same.
If I take more than two months you can ask me to stop (unless it's a reasonable time because you asked for a lot), and how much I'll give you back depends on how far I've gotten but surely it will be something.
If you change your mind about the painting and want to cancel I'll show you how far I was and decide how much to reimburse you (if almost done or if I was working for weeks, I won't reimburse you and I'll likely finish it and put it on sale to get some of my money back, given that I'll have refused other commissions in the meantime. If I had barely started I'll give you nearly all of it back, but I'll keep something for the time spent on it instead of on other commissions).
If you don't like it at the very end, including edits to the final product, which will stop after 5-6 modifications, I will not reimburse you.
This way you can decide if I'm worth your time - because this is my style, simple, visible strokes every now and then.
So to be clear, I found screencaps like these (third one wasn't cropped and the other two are way too dark)
Adjusted them and made a composition because it was my final goal, and I'll show you so you can see at least the way the references looked:
And this is what I came up with, in order from my very first one (made in July 2022) to the latest (October 22). Notice in the second one Yennefer's edited grey dress, which as I said before was impossible for me to replicate:
If this seems a style you can enjoy, then I'll be happy to work with you! You can also specify if you like the visible brush strokes like in the first one (more painting-looking) or prefer a more blended style like the last one!
