This policy describes how version 1.18.6 of the Kalemat Chrome extension handles data.
When you choose a Chrome tab and start a session, Kalemat accesses that tab’s audio to generate live captions. If you use the sharing picker, Chrome also supplies a tab video track as part of the share. Kalemat uses the audio for captions and checks that the shared surface is a browser tab.
Chrome’s speech recognition turns the audio into text. If an on-device speech pack is available for the chosen language, Kalemat requests on-device recognition. Otherwise Chrome may send audio to its speech recognition service. Names or terms you enter under Speech & vocabulary can be used as hints for on-device recognition. [Google Privacy Policy]
When you enable translation, Chrome Translator processes caption text on your device after Chrome downloads the necessary language packs. [Chrome Translator documentation]
Kalemat keeps the visible captions and translations in the caption window. Starting another capture clears the previous transcript, and closing the caption window discards it. Kalemat saves language selections, translation visibility, appearance settings, and window sizes in your Chrome profile.
The publisher does not receive recordings, captions, or translations. Kalemat does not sell user data or use it for advertising, creditworthiness, or lending. Kalemat uses data to provide its caption and translation features as described above.
Kalemat’s use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. [Chrome Web Store Limited Use policy]
