Feature-based modeling

Lecturer: Professor Soonhung Han (shhan@kaist.ac.kr)

TA: Youngki Kim (kimyg5415@kaist.ac.kr)

Introduction

Basic principles of geometric modeling, which is known as the engine of a CAD/CAM system, will be introduced and then advanced topics of parametric design, feature modeling will be covered. Feature-based design, machining, process planning will also be covered. As the term project, you will use an open source CAD (such as FreeCAD, EdisonDesigner, TransCAD) to develop a simple feature modeler as a smart phone app.

Previous project reports will guide you in the course. The recent developments in the history-based parametrics will mark the end of the course.

Keywords:

Geometric Modeling, Solid Modeling, Parametric Modeling, Geometric Modeling Kernels, Feature Concepts and Validation, Feature Creation Techniques, Features in Design, Features in Manufacturing, Design-by-Features Techniques, Feature-Based Process Planning, Future CDE Technologies.
