Kaisa Kärki

Postdoctoral Fellow

Practical Philosophy, University of Helsinki

I am a philosopher of agency working in both the fundamental questions and the applications of empirically informed action theory.

The premise of my work is that philosophy can contribute to solving difficult societal problems especially when openly collaborating with other fields.

I focus on overlooked issues that are of real-life relevance. Whereas my PhD research categorizes the hidden behavior of subordinate groups, in my postdoctoral project I name novel forms of inequality. During the pandemic, I have written about the value of hearing out the perspective of vaccine refusers.

I currently work as a grant researcher in Practical Philosophy at the University of Helsinki. My research is funded by Kone Foundation.

Papers and pre-prints can be found on Publications, PhilPeople, ResearchGate, Academia.edu, and Google Scholar. My recent activities are best found on the university page and forthcoming activities on Twitter.

I supervise students in my focus areas (topics arising from empirical research in behavioral or social sciences; agentive phenomena on top of intentional action: mental action, attention guidance, mindfulness, intentional omissions). If you have common interests, I am happy to discuss ideas and comment on drafts.
