I just bought Nokia 6300 4g and noticed that the hotspot stops working when the screen turns off. One way to work around was to keep the screen on but would like a better solution to this to preserve as much battery as possible while hotspotting.

I live in the united States and have service on the T-Mobile network. I would like a KaiOS phone with WiFi hotspot ability using my current network. What are my options in terms of phones right now?

The 4G hotspot feature worked well. Having a feature phone with hotspot capability was a deliberate compromise. I wanted freedom from smartphone addiction, but did not see the need for a hardline minimalist approach. When you are travelling, for example, it just is easier to be able to access the Internet on the go. When taking my kids to their weekend sporting or club activities, I would sometimes have several hours to kill on some cold field or in a noisy gym, and I wanted to be able to use the time to work or listen to podcasts. In these situations I would bring an additional screen out, connect to the Internet via the Nokia's hotspot, and disconnect again when finished.

Living in South Africa where the first KaiOS phones are about to be released, I strongly believe this will bring a whole new demographic onto the internet and therefore potentially to Wikipedia. Because WiFi access brings the possibility of downloading while at a hotspot, for use later, Kiwix is perfect. I propose that a budget be found to make this happen!Michaelgraaf (talk) 15:57, 24 January 2019 (UTC)Reply[reply] 2351a5e196
