Re-opening Plan - The leadership of King Avenue Church is glad to announce that, along with the recommendations and guidelines set forth by the State of Ohio and the Centers for Disease Control, we will begin a slow re-opening process for worship activities at King Avenue Church beginning Sunday, June 14. Online worship will continue to be an option, too! READ MORE about the service times and safety measures.
This Sunday is PENTECOST! Many wear red on Pentecost Sunday as a visual reminder of the “tongues of fire" that empowered the apostles and others to proclaim the good news of Christ's resurrection in many languages to the crowds of pilgrims from many lands (Acts 2:3). Have a piece of birthday cake, too. The story in Acts 2 describes a powerful wind and tongues of fire as the Holy Spirit was poured out on people from all over the world who came to Jerusalem to celebrate a Jewish feast. At the first Pentecost over 3000 people were baptized, creating the first church. This is why Pentecost is known as the birthday of the Christian Church. LEARN MORE

King Avenue Approved for PPP Loan - In April, King Avenue applied for the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) offered by the Small Business Administration (SBA). We were not approved in the first round of funding, but approved during the second round of funding in early May for $85,500.00. The funds will be used to pay all full and part time employees of King Avenue for the months of May and June. We are following the strict guidelines set out by the SBA and hope to have this loan turned into a grant later in the year. This blessing will allow King Avenue to continue its mission of serving the people of the church and community.
Book Drive and Little Free Library - Looking for a service project? The January New Member Class considered the issue of limited access to books during the health crisis, especially for children and young readers. The conversation centered on "Little Free Libraries," the boxes that have sprung up in Columbus neighborhoods and across the country as distribution points for free books. Exploration revealed that thanks to Rev. Stan Sutton (carpenter) and Sheryl Lazenby (painter), King Avenue Church had a “Little Free Library” unit waiting to be installed and stocked! With plans for installation underway, the class is asking for contributions of books to stock the unit. A drop-off table will be provided at Sunday morning worship services June 14 and 21. We are seeking materials of general interest with an emphasis on young readers. Children’s books in Spanish would be especially welcome. If you are unable to connect for the Sunday morning drop-off, please contact Amy Ashburn through the church office at (614) 424-6050, Ext. 100 to make arrangements.
Greeters and Ushers Needed: We are looking forward to in-person worship soon, but with three services per week additional help is needed in ushering and greeting. There will be a training held the first week of June, so don’t worry if you are new to this role. If you’re willing to lend a helping hand and a friendly (masked) face to the team, please email Beth Aiello, Director of Support Services, at beth@kingave.org. Please give your name and whether you’d like to serve at the 8:00, 9:30, or 11:00 service.
Let's Shower our Grads with CARDS! As we celebrate the accomplishments of our high school graduates from a distance this year, let’s celebrate them with a greeting card! Consider including a prayer or a piece of advice for our young people that are embarking on a new part of their life journey. The complete list of graduates and their mailing addresses is available by request from Erin Kendall at erin@kingave.org or Pastor Colleen at colleen@kingave.org.
Additional Upper Room Resources for COVID-19 Pandemic: The Upper Room daily devotional is offering Resources for Spiritual Wellness in Anxious Times for our church during the journey through the COVID-19 wilderness we’re all navigating. This includes timely practices for individuals and families including digital devotionals, link to morning prayer on Facebook Live, videos, e-courses, podcasts, etc.
Open Doors - Chris McManus
(Refrain) Open hearts, open minds, open doors,
we welcome all who seek to love the Lord.
Bring your joys, bring your burdens, all you rich and poor.
Open hearts, open minds, open hearts, open doors.
We gather here to praise and worship;
in our diversity we find a common ground.
We speak a language of one God, one love;
seek the Lord, sing God’s praise with joyful sound. (Refrain)
God of Spirit, Wind, and Breath, we praise you for your spirit which creates, renews, and blesses life and all creation.
Breathe life into us as individuals and as a congregation that we may experience creatureliness, connection, reverence, care, and joy.
Enter our lives with your spirit that we may live our lives well.
Amen.

Spirit of God (TFWS #2117, verses 1-3)
Our Father*, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

Acts 2:1-21
The Holy Spirit Comes at Pentecost
2 When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. 2 Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. 4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.
5 Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven. 6 When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard their own language being spoken. 7 Utterly amazed, they asked: “Aren’t all these who are speaking Galileans? 8 Then how is it that each of us hears them in our native language? 9 Parthians, Medes and Elamites; residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, 10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene; visitors from Rome 11 (both Jews and converts to Judaism); Cretans and Arabs—we hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues!” 12 Amazed and perplexed, they asked one another, “What does this mean?”
13 Some, however, made fun of them and said, “They have had too much wine.”
Peter Addresses the Crowd
14 Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the crowd: “Fellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem, let me explain this to you; listen carefully to what I say. 15 These people are not drunk, as you suppose. It’s only nine in the morning! 16 No, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:
17 In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams. 18 Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy.
19 I will show wonders in the heavens above and signs on the earth below, blood and fire and billows of smoke. 20 The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord.
21 And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.
Psalm 104:24-34, 35b
24 How many are your works, Lord! In wisdom you made them all; the earth is full of your creatures.
25 There is the sea, vast and spacious, teeming with creatures beyond number— living things both large and small.
26 There the ships go to and fro, and Leviathan, which you formed to frolic there.
27 All creatures look to you to give them their food at the proper time.
28 When you give it to them, they gather it up; when you open your hand, they are satisfied with good things.
29 When you hide your face, they are terrified; when you take away their breath, they die and return to the dust.
30 When you send your Spirit, they are created, and you renew the face of the ground.
31 May the glory of the Lord endure forever; may the Lord rejoice in his works— 32 he who looks at the earth, and it trembles, who touches the mountains, and they smoke.
33 I will sing to the Lord all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.
34 May my meditation be pleasing to him, as I rejoice in the Lord.
35 But may sinners vanish from the earth and the wicked be no more.
Praise the Lord, my soul.
Praise the Lord.
