Welcome and Gathering

Open Doors - Chris McManus

(Refrain) Open hearts, open minds, open doors,

we welcome all who seek to love the Lord.

Bring your joys, bring your burdens, all you rich and poor.

Open hearts, open minds, open hearts, open doors.

We gather here to praise and worship;

in our diversity we find a common ground.

We speak a language of one God, one love;

seek the Lord, sing God’s praise with joyful sound. (Refrain)

Open Doors

Opening Prayer

Living God,

Long ago, faithful women proclaimed the good news of Jesus' resurrection, and the world was changed forever.

Teach us to keep faith with them, that our witness may be as bold, our love as deep, and our faith as true.

Amen.

Special Music

Sanctus from Requiem by Gabriel Faure sung by the Chancel Choir March 18, 2018.

Today's Scripture:

Acts 7:55-60

7:55 But filled with the Holy Spirit, he [Stephen] gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God and Jesus standing at the right hand of God.

7:56 "Look," he said, "I see the heavens opened and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God!"

7:57 But they covered their ears, and with a loud shout all rushed together against him.

7:58 Then they dragged him out of the city and began to stone him; and the witnesses laid their coats at the feet of a young man named Saul.

7:59 While they were stoning Stephen, he prayed, "Lord Jesus, receive my spirit."

7:60 Then he knelt down and cried out in a loud voice, "Lord, do not hold this sin against them." When he had said this, he died.

Psalm 31:1-5, 15-16

31:1 In you, O LORD, I seek refuge; do not let me ever be put to shame; in your righteousness deliver me.

31:2 Incline your ear to me; rescue me speedily. Be a rock of refuge for me, a strong fortress to save me.

31:3 You are indeed my rock and my fortress; for your name's sake lead me and guide me,

31:4 take me out of the net that is hidden for me, for you are my refuge.

31:5 Into your hand I commit my spirit; you have redeemed me, O LORD, faithful God.

31:15 My times are in your hand; deliver me from the hand of my enemies and persecutors.

31:16 Let your face shine upon your servant; save me in your steadfast love.

Pastoral Prayer

The Lord's Prayer

Our Father*, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.  For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

Offertory Prayer

Generous God, This week a homeless couple sheltered on our porch, a team prepared a hot meal in our kitchen for the homeless at the Open Shelter, students set up a hammock between trees in the west lot to enjoy the sun, parents taught their children to ride bikes in the parking lot, employees at OSU Hospital parked in our lot, and teams began planting flowers in the gardens. Finally, our mail carrier gave King Avenue $200 in gratitude for all that it does to help people. Generous God, we give thanks for all the gifts which empower us to witness to your hospitality in our community. Amen.
