A RE-OPENING THESPIAN MOMENT

ANNOUNCEMENTS

  • Spiritual by Nature - Join us for an in-person experience in nature. We will meet at a different Metro Park for two Saturdays in June and two Saturdays in July, combining a walk in nature with a self-guided meditation on God, Creation, and our place in it all. Walks/hikes will be around 1 mile and no more than 1.5 miles on trails that have been rated "Easy" by park staff. Each class will be at a different park. Please register for this event on Realm so you get updates on where the class will be held as well as any weather cancellations. One session each will be held at Blendon Woods, Highbanks, Scioto Audubon, and Battelle Darby parks. We ask that all participants wear a mask; participants will be socially distanced during class, but please be aware that we may also encounter members of the public while in session. We will do our best to keep distance when at all possible. Classes are standalone, and you are welcome to attend any class even if you didn’t attend the previous one. Please direct any questions to beth@kingave.org. CLICK HERE TO REGISTER

  • Church at Home Small Group - Rev. Colleen Ogle invites you to -The Church at Home Small Group, a Bible study and discussion weekly by Zoom in June through August. The materials we use are The Bible Project’s “Church at Home” featuring a weekly 3-5 minute audio reflection, and a 6-minute video presentation that the group will watch together during our session. Participants will read 3 Bible passages in advance each week that will form the basis for our discussion. The themes include Generosity, Sabbath, Gospel, Water of Life, Image of God, Justice, Way of Exile, Hope, and Wisdom. Our discussion will focus on discerning the scriptures meaning for today. The sessions will meet Thursdays 7 pm – 8:15pm weekly starting June 11. CLICK HERE TO REGISTER

  • Book Drive and Little Free Library - Looking for a service project, the January New Member Class considered the issue of limited access to books, during the health crisis, especially for children and young readers. The conversation centered on "Little Free Libraries," the boxes that have sprung up in Columbus neighborhoods and across the country as distribution points for free books. Exploration revealed that thanks to Rev. Stan Sutton (carpenter) and Sheryl Lazenby (painter) King Avenue Church had a “Little Free Library” unit waiting to be installed and stocked. With plans for installation underway, the class is asking for contributions of books to stock the unit. A dropoff table will be provided at Sunday morning worship services June 14 and 21. We are seeking materials of general interest (with an emphasis on young readers). Children’s books in Spanish would be especially welcome. If you are unable to connect for the Sunday morning dropoff, please contact Amy Ashburn through the church office at (614) 424-6050, Ext. 100 to make arrangements.

  • Realm Glitches - Some of you may have received a Realm notification for an All-Church Lunch this week. Unfortunately, this was an error in the Realm notification system. King Avenue will continue to keep all large events on hold until our state government decrees that we can gather safely. We apologize for the confusion.

  • Reminder - Food and Drink at Church - Food and drink will not be served before or after services when we resume in-person worship. We ask that you also not bring in food or drink to consume inside the building. We are adopting a no eating or drinking policy so that folks will not need to remove their masks while in the building, lessening the opportunity for respiratory particles to spread. Thanks in advance for helping us care for one another.

  • Virtual Pride Worship - Although the Columbus Pride celebration has been postponed due to COVID-19, we will gather together VIRTUALLY for our Pride Worship Service. Join the Reconciling Ministries Network Churches/Communities and its allies to celebrate God's grace, love, and inclusion for ALL! Mark your calendars for Friday, June 19 at 7:00pm. Clergy and lay persons from Central Ohio Reconciling Ministries Network Churches/Communities and ally churches will be presenting a meaningful worship service. We are also excited to present a virtual community choir as part of the service! Prior to the VIRTUAL Pride Worship 2020 Premier, you can visit the website (bit.ly/cbusprideworship2020) to view details about the service, and to learn more about the Central Ohio Reconciling Ministries Network. You will also see a placeholder for the worship video so you'll know where to find it on June 19! On Friday, June 19 at 7:00pm, come back to the website to participate in the Virtual Pride Worship. If you'd like to host a Watch Party on Facebook, the website has a page to help you with that! Simply copy the link to the YouTube video, then go to Facebook (news feed, Group, or Page) to host. Help spread the word! We look forward to worshipping together soon! ALL are welcome!

  • Re-opening Plan - The leadership of King Avenue Church is glad to announce that, along with the recommendations and guidelines set forth by the State of Ohio and the Centers for Disease Control, we will begin a slow re-opening process for worship activities at King Avenue Church beginning Sunday, June 14. Online worship will continue to be an option, too! READ MORE about the service times and safety measures.

  • Greeters and Ushers Still Needed! In order to ensure safety of everyone during our three in-person services each week, additional help is needed in ushering and greeting. Don’t worry if you are new to this role. You will receive training. If you’re willing to lend a helping hand and a friendly (masked) face to the team, please email Beth Aiello, Director of Support Services, at beth@kingave.org. Please give your name and whether you’d like to serve at the 8:00, 9:30, or 11:00 service.

  • King Avenue approved for PPP Loan - In April, King Avenue applied for the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) offered by the Small Business Administration (SBA). We were not approved in the first round of funding, but approved during the second round of funding in early May for $85,500.00. The funds will be used to pay all full and part time employees of King Avenue for the months of May and June. We are following the strict guidelines set out by the SBA and hope to have this loan turned into a grant later in the year. This blessing will allow King Avenue to continue its mission of serving the people of the church and community.

  • Additional Upper Room Resources for COVID-19 Pandemic - The Upper Room daily devotional is offering Resources for Spiritual Wellness in Anxious Times for our church during the journey through the COVID-19 wilderness we’re all navigating. This includes timely practices for individuals and families including digital devotionals, link to morning prayer on Facebook Live, videos, e-courses, podcasts, etc.

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE LESSONS

Genesis 1:1-2:4a

In the beginning when God created the heavens and the earth, the earth was a formless void and darkness covered the face of the deep, while a wind from God swept over the face of the waters.

Then God said, "Let there be light"; and there was light.

And God saw that the light was good; and God separated the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day.

And God said, "Let there be a dome in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters."

So God made the dome and separated the waters that were under the dome from the waters that were above the dome. And it was so. God called the dome Sky. And there was evening and there was morning, the second day.

And God said, "Let the waters under the sky be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear."

And it was so. God called the dry land Earth, and the waters that were gathered together he called Seas. And God saw that it was good. Then God said, "Let the earth put forth vegetation: plants yielding seed, and fruit trees of every kind on earth that bear fruit with the seed in it." And it was so. The earth brought forth vegetation: plants yielding seed of every kind, and trees of every kind bearing fruit with the seed in it. And God saw that it was good. And there was evening and there was morning, the third day.

And God said, "Let there be lights in the dome of the sky to separate the day from the night; and let them be for signs and for seasons and for days and years, and let them be lights in the dome of the sky to give light upon the earth."

And it was so. God made the two great lights--the greater light to rule the day and the lesser light to rule the night--and the stars. God set them in the dome of the sky to give light upon the earth, to rule over the day and over the night, and to separate the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good. And there was evening and there was morning, the fourth day.

And God said, "Let the waters bring forth swarms of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the dome of the sky."

So God created the great sea monsters and every living creature that moves, of every kind, with which the waters swarm, and every winged bird of every kind. And God saw that it was good. God blessed them, saying, "Be fruitful and multiply and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth." And there was evening and there was morning, the fifth day.

And God said, "Let the earth bring forth living creatures of every kind: cattle and creeping things and wild animals of the earth of every kind."

And it was so. God made the wild animals of the earth of every kind, and the cattle of every kind, and everything that creeps upon the ground of every kind. And God saw that it was good.

Then God said, "Let us make humankind in our image, according to our likeness; and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the wild animals of the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth." So God created humankind in his image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. God blessed them, and God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it; and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the air and over every living thing that moves upon the earth." God said, "See, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit; you shall have them for food. And to every beast of the earth, and to every bird of the air, and to everything that creeps on the earth, everything that has the breath of life, I have given every green plant for food." And it was so. God saw everything that he had made, and indeed, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.

Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all their multitude. And on the seventh day God finished the work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all the work that he had done. So God blessed the seventh day and hallowed it, because on it God rested from all the work that he had done in creation.

These are the generations of the heavens and the earth when they were created.

2 Corinthians 13:11-13

Finally, brothers and sisters, farewell. Put things in order, listen to my appeal, agree with one another, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you.Greet one another with a holy kiss. All the saints greet you.

The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with all of you.
