Open Doors - Chris McManus
(Refrain) Open hearts, open minds, open doors,
we welcome all who seek to love the Lord.
Bring your joys, bring your burdens, all you rich and poor.
Open hearts, open minds, open hearts, open doors.
We gather here to praise and worship;
in our diversity we find a common ground.
We speak a language of one God, one love;
seek the Lord, sing God’s praise with joyful sound. (Refrain)
Lord of Life, submitting to death, you conquered the grave.
By being lifted on a cross you draw all peoples to you.
By being raised from the dead, you restored to humanity all that we had lost through sin.
This joyous Easter day, we proclaim the marvelous mystery of death and resurrection.
For all praise is yours, now and throughout eternity. Amen.

Revelation 19:6 – Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth.
Revelation 19:16 – And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, King of Kings, and Lord of Lords.
Revelation 11:15 – And he shall reign for ever and ever.
Matthew 28:1-10
After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to look at the tomb. Look, there was a great earthquake, for an angel from the Lord came down from heaven. Coming to the stone, he rolled it away and sat on it. Now his face was like lightning and his clothes as white as snow. The guards were so terrified of him that they shook with fear and became like dead men. But the angel said to the women, “Don’t be afraid. I know that you are looking for Jesus who was crucified. He isn’t here, because he’s been raised from the dead, just as he said. Come, see the place where they laid him. Now hurry, go and tell his disciples. ‘He’s been raised from the dead. He’s going on ahead of you to Galilee. You will see him there.’ I’ve given the message to you.” With great fear and excitement, they hurried away from the tomb and ran to tell his disciples. But Jesus met them and greeted them. They came and grabbed his feet and worshipped him. Then Jesus said to them, “Don’t be afraid. Go and tell my brothers that I am going into Galilee. They will see me there.”
1 Corinthians 15:51-58
Listen, I’m telling you a secret: all of us won’t die, but we will all be changed—in an instant, in the blink of an eye, at the final trumpet. The trumpet will blast, and the dead will be raised with bodies that won’t decay, and we will be changed. It’s necessary for this rotting body to be clothed with what can’t decay, and for the body that is dying to be clothed in what can’t die. And when the rotting body has been clothed in what can’t decay, and the dying body has been clothed in what can’t die, then this statement in scripture will happen: Death has been swallowed up by a victory. Where is your victory, Death? Where is your sting, Death? (Death’s sting is sin, and the power of sin is the Law.)
Thanks be to God, who gives us this victory through our Lord Jesus Christ! As a result of all this, my loved brothers and sisters, you must stand firm, unshakable, excelling in the work of the Lord as always, because you know that your labor isn’t going to be for nothing in the Lord.
Our Father*, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

What is your first memory of becoming aware of death?
Have you ever talked about death with your friends and loved ones?
How do you imagine the afterlife?
Here are some scriptures you can read at your leisure to find out more about what the Bible says: John 14:1-7, 1 Corinthians 13:8-13; 1 Corinthians 15; 2 Corinthians 4:16-5:5; Hebrews 12:22-24; 1 Peter 1:3-5; 1 John 3:1-3; Revelation 21.
Is there anything you’ve noticed about yourself, your family, or our society during this strange time of shelter in place that you want to be part of a “new normal?”
Kermit Ball died on April 1. He was a good, gentle man with a positive outlook. He was appreciative of the simplest gestures and took everything in stride. He had a quiet demeanor which radiated peace. Kermit was a loving father and friend and will be deeply missed by his family. As a single parent Kermit reared his daughter Teresa from her early years. Until recently he was a regular participant at the Morning Blend service.
In life, in death, in life beyond death, God is with us. We are not alone. Thanks be to God. And thanks be to God for the life of Kermit Ball.

Many King Avenue members made dedications in honor or in memory of loved ones. Since we were not together for Easter, the flower money was generously donated to NNEMAP Food Pantry to help all those especially at need during this difficult time.
