ย Nahyun Eun's paper (Design of Automatic Online Lecture Video Commentator for Visually Impaired Students Supporting Diagram Commentary) has been published in the Volume 379, Information Systems for Intelligent Systems. ISBM 2023, Bangkok, Thailand. Congratulations๐Ÿ–ค

[ Abstract ]
ย  With the recent popularization of the Internet, interest in online lectures is increasing. However, due to the characteristics of online lectures that rely on visual materials, visually impaired students need help accessing lecture materials for online lectures. To overcome this, we designed an online lecture system specialized for visually impaired students. Our automatic lecture video content commentator for visually impaired students supporting diagram commentary extracts visual data in the scene of the lecture video, converts it into text, and explains it to students by voice. In particular, a usability evaluation of the commentary technique was conducted to explain the diagram effectively.

ย Nahyun Eun's paper (DiagramVoice: Automatic Lecture Video Commentator for Visually Impaired Students Supporting Diagram Commentary) has been accepted for a oral presentation at the 9th International Congress on Information and Communication Technology in concurrent with ICT Excellence Awards (ICICT 2024). And she participated and presented in a oral session at the conference in London, UK. Congratulations๐Ÿ–ค

[ Abstract ]
ย  Recently, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the utilization of non-face- to-face lectures has increased. Online lectures use a lot of visual materials, and blind college students experience difficulties in understanding the lecture con- tent. This causes them to lose concentration and interest in the class. This paper proposes an automatic lecture video commentary system, "DiagramVoice", to ensure an independent learning environment for visually impaired students. It is designed as a mobile application to be easily accessible to the visually impaired. It can provide analysis of text and nature photos among visual materials in lecture videos and also provides commentary on diagrams through the diagram commen- tary generation algorithm developed in this paper. To verify the practical usabil- ity of our DiagramVoice, we conducted user tests on the results of the diagram commentary generation algorithm.

And she participated and presented in a oral session at the conference in London, UK. Congratulations๐Ÿ–ค

[ Abstract ]
ย  Being able to communicate information is important in the information society, and data visualization is an important way to do so, but there are limita- tions to software accessibility for the visually impaired. For the visually impaired who have difficulty creating charts, which are essential for information transfer and understanding, we implemented a voice report generator supporting various chart drawing. The system allows users to say the title, type, data, and labels of a chart, and then generates a chart based on this information. The system supports a variety of plot types, has a simple user interface, and can be operated using a Bluetooth remote control. We conducted an experiment to evaluate the usability of this system and found that it is a convenient and efficient system for generating reports without much difficulty for visually impaired people.

ย Yubin Ok's paper (Implementation of Sophisticated Image Insertion Function Voice-Based Report Generator Application for the Visually Impaired) has been published in the Proceedings of the Future Technologies Conference (FTC) 2023, Volume 2, San Francisco, USA. Congratulations๐Ÿ–ค

[ Abstract ]
ย  Due to the influence of COVID-19, the social environment is changing in the direction of a surge in the frequency of non-face-to-face platform use, but this change rather causes vulnerability in online access for the disabled. In particular, the visually impaired people have difficulty accessing software that emphasizes the importance of visual materials in terms of learning. Accordingly, a speech-based report generation system for the visually impaired has been developed, but the function of inserting visual data into reports is not supported. Therefore, this paper aims to upgrade the existing speech-based report writing system for the visually impaired by implementing image insertion functions such as diagrams as well as general images. When a user searches for the desired image by voice, the system generates a caption for that image, allowing the user to listen to the generated caption by voice and select the desired image and insert it into the report. As a result of the experiment, it was confirmed that visually impaired people can also insert the desired image into the report without much overhead.

ย Soeun Kim's paper (Implementation of a Mobile Application for Checking Medicines and Pills for the Visually Impaired in Korea) has been published in the Volume 1, 2023 Proceedings of 8th International Congress on Information and Communication Technology (ICICT 2023) London, UK. Congratulations๐Ÿ–ค

[ Abstract ]
ย  According to the Pharmaceutical Affairs Act of South Korea, medicines should be used correctly and safely by stating the product name, expiration date, and dosage on the container or packaging. However, such matters are rarely marked in braille, and the labeling is insufficient, making it difficult for visually impaired people to accurately know and take medication information. In this paper, we implement a mobile application that provides integrated services, so blind people can conveniently inquire about medicines based on voice guides. Medicinesโ€™ search is possible through various methods such as container recognition, pill recognition, speech recognition, prescription recognition, and drug envelope recognition. A CNN-based pill recognition model was also developed. Using our implementation, blind people can quickly obtain information about medicine through simple UI and minimal input. As a result, our application will improve access to medicine information for the visually impaired while also reducing misuse by the visually impaired.

[ Abstract ]
ย  As the incidence of cybercrime has increased dramatically, the importance and necessity of digital forensic investigation techniques, especially deleted file recovery, has increased. This paper aims to identify the shortcomings of Scalpel among various file recovery tools and suggest ways to improve them. We aim to improve the recovery capability by improving the following three shortcomings: no name of the recovered file, duplicate creation, and low recovery capability due to false-positive file creation. We also propose to improve signature-based recovery tools to analyze and recover other data. This will allow for more effective recovery, such as recovering filenames that could not be recovered.

ย Yubin Ok's paper (Implementing Image Insertion Function of Voice-Based Report Generator Application for the Visually Impaired) has been published in the April 2023 issue of the Journal of Digital Contents Society. Congratulations๐Ÿ–ค

[ Abstract ]
ย  The COVID-19 pandemic has caused the social environment to change, resulting in a surge in the frequency of non-face-to-face platform use. However, the changing social environment has led to challenges in online access for the differently abled. In particular, the visually impaired face difficulties in accessing software, and this emphasizes the importance of visual materials in learning. A voice report generation system for the visually impaired has been developed to address the aforementioned issue; however, the system does not support the insertion of visual data into reports. Therefore, this study aims to upgrade the existing voice report generation system for the visually impaired by implementing an image insertion function. When the user searches for a desired image by voice, a caption is generated for the image, allowing the user to listen to the generated caption by voice, select the desired image, and insert the image into the report. [ Abstract ]
ย  Recently, KIOSKs can be easily found in many places due to the increased labor cost burden and technology development. In particular, the restaurant industry increases the kiosk placement rate. However, the visually impaired have problems with KIOSKs consisting of touch screens and even describe it as a 'wall.' Based on speech recognition, we propose software that helps visually impaired people use kiosks independently. The speech recognition kiosk proposed in this paper guides the ordering process to users through sound. And users order foods by voice. This paper introduces the functional design of the speech-recognition kiosk, the implementation of the prototype, and the operation process of the application.

[ Abstract ]
ย  With the increasing amount of time we spend indoors these days, there's a growing interest in growing indoor plants.ย  The number of people growing plants is increasing, but in today's busy society, people want to manage their plants easily with less time and effort.ย  To this end, the 'Hello my Plant' app, a plant identification and management application proposed by Nunmon, allows you to easily check the cultivation information through the image of the plant and notify you with an alarm without knowing the watering cycle and fertilizer supply cycle of the plant.ย  'Hello my Plant' is based on the Plant.id API, which allows you to search for scientific names through plant images, and checks the plant's cultivation information and helps users grow plants accordingly.
