Skills: State Tested Nursing Aids (STNA's) (also referred to as nursing aids or nursing assistants) work in home health care, residential living, nursing homes, and other medical facilities completing tasks such as:
Provide hands-on patient care and routine task assistance
Measure patients' vital signs and document their health concerns to share with nurses
Assisting patients when they use the toilet, bathe, dress, and eat their meals
Help with turning, repositioning, and transferring patients between their beds and wheelchairs

Career Outlook:
Employment of STNA's is projected to grow 4% over the next eight years, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. In 2024, the Median Wage for STNA's was $38,570 per year in Ohio.
With your STNA certification, you will be eligible to work right away. Nursing assistants can find work in:
Hospitals
Nursing Homes
Residential Care Facilities
Home Heallth Environments
With additional training, STNA certification can lead to obtaining your Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN)
Nursing Assistants can also work to obtain additional specialized certifications, such as becoming a Medication Aide, Patient Care Technician, or Phlebotomist

Phlebotomists serve in hospitals, outpatient care centers, physician's offices, medical and diagnostic laboratories, and blood banks. Some job responsibilities include:
Drawing blood from patients or blood donors
Explaining their work to help relax patients or donors who feel nervous about having blood drawn
Labeling sterile containers for other samples, such as urine, and instructing patients on proper collection procedures.
Ensuring proper documentation and procedure for blood samples

Employment of Phlebotomists is projected to grow 8% over the next eight years. That's faster than average for for all occupations, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. In 2024, the Median Wage for Phlebotomists was $38,830 per year in Ohio.
With your Phlebotomy Certification, you will be eligible to find work right away. Phlebotomists find work in:

Clinical Laboratories
Blood Banks
With additional training and education individuals can work in research or medical laboratories as assistants, scientists, or in a supervisory roles.
