If you want a rugged, long-lasting on-ear solution for outdoor endurance and reliable connectivity, choose JVC HA-S23W; if you need a discreet, all-day open-ear design that keeps your ears cool during intense activity or long shifts, choose QJF Open Ear Earbuds.
• JVC HA-S23W: Offers a secure, flat-foldable on-ear fit with a massive 17-hour continuous battery life, but lacks true isolation or sweat resistance features. Best for hikers who prioritize battery endurance and a classic headphone form factor.
• QJF Open Ear Earbuds: Delivers an invisible skin-tone aesthetic with IP54 water resistance and Bluetooth 5.4 stability, though the single-unit battery life is shorter than the JVC's total runtime. Best for runners or commuters needing situational awareness and comfort for marathon wear.
The JVC HA-S23W is built for people who want to get lost in their audio without worrying about the clock running out before they return home. Its standout feature is the 17-hour rechargeable battery, which provides a solid foundation for long trips where charging isn't an option. This isn't just about listening to music; it is about having a device that can survive a full day of hiking or a cross-country flight without needing a power outlet. The Bluetooth 5.0 connection ensures that once paired, the link remains stable even as you move through varied terrain.
For the outdoor enthusiast, the physical design matters just as much as the specs. These headphones feature a lightweight construction with a flat foldable swivel design. This means you can collapse them down into a very compact shape that slides easily into a backpack pocket or side pouch. When you are navigating a trail, every ounce counts, and the ability to stow these away securely without them taking up valuable space is a genuine advantage. The soft ear pads and adjustable headband also contribute to a fit that feels secure, preventing the headphones from bouncing around when you are walking uphill or descending a rocky path.

However, this product is not for everyone. If your primary concern is hearing the world around you while you exercise, the on-ear design might feel too isolating compared to open-ear alternatives. It is ideal for the hiker who wants to listen to podcasts or audiobooks for hours on end, but less suitable for someone who needs to hear traffic or trail markers constantly.
The QJF Open Ear Earbuds are engineered for a completely different set of priorities, focusing heavily on discretion, comfort, and environmental awareness. The most striking aspect is the nude skin-tone color, which creates a low-profile look that blends in seamlessly with your face. This makes them an excellent choice for professionals who need to stay connected during client meetings or office work without looking like they are wearing bulky tech. The open-ear design eliminates the "plugged-in" feeling, allowing you to take calls or listen to music while remaining fully aware of your surroundings.
Durability and longevity are key selling points here, particularly for active users. With an IP54 rating, these earbuds are protected against sweat and light rain, making them a viable option for waterproof head phones for hiking scenarios where sudden showers are possible. The open-back design is specifically touted for "all-day comfort," eliminating the ear fatigue that often comes with traditional in-ear buds after several hours of wear. Whether you are on a nine-hour shift or a long commute, the ergonomic shape and soft silicone cushions ensure the device stays comfortable without pressing into the ear canal.
The connectivity experience is another major draw, driven by the inclusion of Bluetooth 5.4. This newer standard offers a more stable connection with a range of up to 15 meters, reducing the frustration of dropped signals while moving between rooms or devices. You can quickly switch between your phone and laptop, which is essential for hybrid workers. However, the trade-off lies in the battery management; while the charging case provides a massive total playtime of 60 hours, the earbuds themselves offer an 8-hour continuous run. This is still substantial, but it is half the continuous runtime of the JVC unit, meaning you will likely need to charge them mid-day if you are doing something extremely long.
• Best for extended uninterrupted listening → JVC HA-S23W. The 17-hour continuous battery life beats the QJF's 8-hour per-charge limit, making it superior for long hauls where you cannot stop to charge.
• Best for situational awareness → QJF Open Ear Earbuds. The open-ear architecture allows you to hear nature, traffic, or colleagues, whereas the on-ear JVC design blocks more ambient sound.
• Best for weather resilience → QJF Open Ear Earbuds. The IP54 rating explicitly covers sweat and light rain, offering better protection for outdoor workouts than the unspecified durability of the JVC.
• Best for professional discretion → QJF Open Ear Earbuds. The skin-tone finish and invisible profile make them far more appropriate for office environments or formal settings.
• Best for compact storage → JVC HA-S23W. The flat foldable swivel design collapses significantly smaller than the standalone QJF units, fitting easier into tight pockets.
• Best for modern connectivity → QJF Open Ear Earbuds. Bluetooth 5.4 provides faster pairing and a wider 15-meter range compared to the older Bluetooth 5.0 in the JVC.
• Best for call clarity in quiet spaces → QJF Open Ear Earbuds. The microphone is tuned specifically for voice clarity in moderate environments, optimizing conference calls.
• Best value for battery anxiety → JVC HA-S23W. If you hate carrying a charging case and want one charge to last a full day of hiking, the JVC wins on pure endurance.
After weighing the specifications and intended use cases, I would buy the JVC HA-S23W for my own hiking adventures. While the QJF offers excellent situational awareness, the 17-hour battery life and the robust, foldable design of the JVC provide the peace of mind I need when I am out on a trail for a full day. The ability to collapse the headphones into a compact flat shape saves precious space in my pack, and the longer battery ensures I won't be cut off from my entertainment or navigation aids halfway through a hike. However, if my priority was working from a coffee shop or running in hot weather where I needed to hear my surroundings perfectly, the QJF would be the logical choice. For serious outdoor endurance, the JVC's raw battery capacity and durable form factor simply edge it out.
The QJF Open Ear Earbuds have an IP54 rating that protects against sweat and light rain, making them safer for wet conditions than the JVC, which does not list a specific waterproof rating.
The JVC HA-S23W offers 17 hours of continuous playback on a single charge, whereas the QJF Open Ear Earbuds provide 8 hours per charge, though the QJF case adds extra charges for a total of 60 hours.
No, the QJF model features a nude skin-tone color designed to be almost invisible, offering a discreet look ideal for offices or public spaces, unlike the black plastic JVC headphones.
Yes, both support calls, but the QJF Open Ear Earbuds are specifically optimized with a microphone tuned for voice clarity in quiet to moderate environments, making them slightly better for professional use.
