Dear Cheetoh & Sherniyon , Welcome To Just IAS Foundation With Jabardast Energy
According to the new examination system, at present the preliminary examination consists of two question papers. The first question paper is of 'General Studies' while the second is called 'Civil Services Aptitude Test' or 'CSAT' and it is in the form of qualifying paper.
Both question papers are of 200-200 marks. The first question paper (General Studies) has 100 questions of 2 marks each while the second question paper (CSAT) has 80 questions of 2.5 marks each.
The system of 'negative marking' is applicable in both the question papers under which marks equal to 1 correct answer are deducted if 3 answers are wrong. In CSAT, marks are not deducted for wrong answers in questions related to decision making ability.
Since now the CSAT paper has been made qualifying in nature, any candidate is required to score only 33% marks (approximately 27 questions or 66 marks) in the CSAT paper to pass the preliminary examination. If he scores less than this, he is considered a failure. Now the cut-off is decided only on the basis of the first paper i.e. General Studies.
