Just for Bishops
The following items have been selected to assist bishops in dealing with addiction.

Special Request for Bishops
Here is an important document addressed to you. Please review it with your bishopric and ward leadership.
We also invite you to visit at least one ARP meeting, either a General Addiction meeting for Men & Women or a Pornography meeting for Men Only or perhaps one of each type.
Addiction Support
The opposite of addiction is connection. When meeting with an individual who might have an addictive behavior, like drugs, alcohol, smoking, gambling, food, pornography, or sexual addiction, please consider referring them to an ARP 12 Step meeting.
The choices available in Orem can be found on the current Meeting Schedule. These meetings are free, participants are anonymous, and appointments are not required. They should just show up.
If you send them we will love them!
Suggestions for Follow Up
If you send someone to a 12 Step group, at subsequent interviews ask one or more of these questions:
What's your attendance like at the weekly group meeting?
Which step are you working on?
How often do you reach out to other members of your group?
Have you selected a sponsor yet?
How often do you communicate with your sponsor?
How are you doing with the "Action Steps" and completing the "Study and Understanding" assignments?
Ask to see their Guidebook and the steps they have completed.
Tell me about your "dailies?" Do you do them daily?
At each interview, consider offering a blessing before they leave your office.
Spouse Support
Spouses of those suffering from addiction also need support:
Ask them how they are doing and listen to what they might need.
Offer priesthood blessings.
Refer them to a Spouse Support meeting.
See current Meeting Schedule (there are two weekly meetings)

What if someone says:
"I've tried ARP, but it doesn't work for me?"
We've heard this before, and some of the following may be part of the reason:
The Church's recovery program may now work for everyone.
They may not be committed to regular attendance at ARP meetings
They may not have selected a sponsor or are not actively working with that sponsor
They are only using their smartphone to work the program
They are not actually "working the steps." To work the steps means:"
Obtaining a hard copy of the guidebook
Working the "Action Steps"
Filling out the "Study and Understanding" assignments for each step
So it's possibly not the program that's not working; it might be the person that's not working.
However, the Church's program may not work for everyone---be careful not to shame the person---encourage them to find other resources if they wish.
We Need Senior Missionaries!
We welcome men, women, couples, or a single spouse.
Please review this invitation and consider placing this link (bit.ly/arp-missionary) in your ward bulletin or newsletter. Or in a newsletter from your Elders quorum or Relief Society. If someone approaches you, refer them to Elder & Sister Rice. We can answer their questions and help them fill out the missionary application. We are only asking for 3 hours a week away from home. And the calling can be as short as 12 months. The QR-Code below also points to that same invitation.
