Q: Are you part of any clubs? If so, which ones and what do you do in each club?

A: I’m a part of Key club, MSA, environmental club, and world issues club. For world issues club, we just have to talk about recent issues going on in the world. In the environmental club, we talk about things that can help the environment. In MSA, we go over things concerning religion and discuss it. So far since the pandemic, we haven’t done much. I’ve been a part of MSA for about 2 years now and we have been doing the same thing since then. For the other clubs, I joined last semester, which was in September.

Q: What were some of your favorite high school memories?

A: My favorite memories were going out with my friends to a cafe near school. Also, going to clubs and meeting new friends was fun.

Q: What were some of the toughest high school memories you have?

A: Studying and taking exams were the toughest part of high school. I’m personally not that good at test taking, so I had to try extra hard to get a grade I was happy with.

Q: What were some of the hardest classes you had to take? And how did you handle them?

A: The hardest class I’ve had to take was Chemistry. Although I took it in middle school, the class is much harder in high school than it was back then. To deal with the class, I tell myself that I only have to take the class temporarily and that it won’t have too much of an effect on my future, so there’s no point in worrying about it.

Q: What was your initial reaction to quarantine and the shift to remote learning?

A: At first, I was a bit surprised and irritated, but as time went on, I got used to it. I felt like my life was being terrible during quarantine. I knew that it was bad when they gave us two weeks off of school. Right now, I feel good because I’m safe with my family near me. Looking back, I think that I shouldn’t have been too worried because freaking out isn’t a great coping mechanism. It will negatively affect your performance in classes.

Q: What was the easiest part of quarantine and remote learning?

A: I don’t think there’s anything easy about quarantine but taking tests is a bit easier. I would have more time to study during quarantine than before. I also got more sleep during quarantine.

Q: What was the hardest part of quarantine and remote learning?

A: Teaching myself things that teachers couldn’t teach online but could in person was hard. Figuring out answers to questions by myself was really hard and I had to take pictures of my work and send it to the teacher to get help. It was really stressful and I didn’t like it.

Q: What helped you stay calm and relaxed during the quarantine?

A: I worked out, specifically running. I’d run around my neighborhood in the morning and come home later and feel relaxed.

Q: Do you have any advice on high school, quarantine, remote learning, or anything else?

A: I recommend researching what you want to do and what you are good at before you apply to college so that you can go to a college that can support those goals.

Also, even though we’re home and its a bit more stressful, try to have a positive mindset. A negative mindset won’t take you anywhere.
