Hey, y'all. It’s Deborah back at it again with another interview! I’m here with Arleny and Angelica, who are Seniors at MVA, to help continue my interview series called, Stayin’ Studious w/ the Seniors! Today’s questions are going to focus on their experience at MVA and their future plans for once they leave MVA!

Q: What clubs/sports team were you a part of?

Arleny: Since Freshman year I’ve been part of the Softball team, it’s my whole heart. Yea-- and this year I’m on the Senior Hoodie Committee.

Angelica: I was part of the tour guiding club. I was also on the cheerleading team, even though we barely cheered. This year I’m on the yearbook committee and also the committee to plan events for seniors. We plan like graduation, prom, even though we might not have the chance to do them.

Q: Looking back to your Freshman to Senior year here at MVA what were some of your favorite memories?

Arleny: Freshman year was a good year. It was the easiest year to pass all your classes and everyone was united and cool with one another. Sophomore year came and I didn’t like it. Junior year came, it was supposed to be the hardest year, but I feel like covid helped me that year. I ended that year on a high note and I was good with all my friends. Now, I’m just waiting for the end, we’re almost there!

Angelica: From freshman to senior year, I feel like you learn a lot about yourself and your peers. But my favorite time at MVA was in sophomore year. I was focused on my sweet 16 and the hype around that. My 16 was a pivotal moment. I think that was the last time everyone was actually together, like the last shebang. I think we just all outgrew one another, but it was my favorite time. Also, spirit week, even though we didn’t have it during my junior year or this year it was still the best time at MVA. Everyone was always hyped for it!

(Just breaking in with a clarification, we did have Spirit Week last year, but it was at the start of virtual learning, so not many people participated. We are hoping for active school-wide participation this March!!!)

Q: How has the MVA experience changed for you since we are remote?

Arleny: It changed completely, I think we can all say that. Like, I don’t see my friends on a daily basis. Like, we had a routine, we’ll go to school together and leave school together. We would see each other and be there for each other, school wise. But sometimes things happen for a reason, like sometimes remote has helped me with my academics. It allowed me to do my work quicker, without any distractions.

Angelica: It was procrastination for me like school was always a priority for me. But having to go remote and be on top of my school-work all the time was a lot. Especially when I have so many other things going on-- like starting a business, doing YouTube, and stuff. It has a lot of pros and cons. But I’m grateful for remote learning. You can say it’s a blessing in disguise. If I was in school, I wouldn’t be able to start a business, social media marketing, doing YouTube. Wednesdays are like my break day, to focus on other things than school. So, it was definitely a blessing in disguise.

**Promo: Amity Luxe Lashes, was started 4 months ago where we work with women who are looking to start wearing lashes or who already wear lashes. We are branching to other products as we grow, but I wanted to start with lashes because it’s something I’m very knowledgeable about. SO go buy it for your girlfriend, best friends, or of course, yourself!

Q: If you had to change one thing about your academic or social life at MVA, what would it be?

Arleny: I would like to agree. I would’ve asked teachers for help or if y’all are in person, staying back after school or on Saturday school. Even though you don’t want to stay after school and you want to go home, it helps a lot. You’ll start grasping the concepts and it just helps me succeed in the class. And socially, I’m not as friendly as Angelica. Like I’m good at being nice and welcoming, but I knew who to stay away from and keep my distance from. Like, there’s no time to be in drama.

Angelica: For academics, I wish I was more focused on math. I hated math, but I still did well ( you can say). But I could have so much more potential in math. I just really didn’t like math. And for social, I am a social person as it is. In freshman year, I was too social. I was too friendly, it’s not a bad thing, but I probably surrounded myself with people I shouldn’t have. So, I would’ve been less friendly and focused on math.

Q: Can you describe the college application process for us?

Arleny: Although it was overwhelming, it was a smooth process for me. I was able to get help from Ms. Nappy and Ms. C as well. They are there to help with the college application process, so don’t be afraid to ask. I feel like I was ahead of everything and on time with everything. You just have to make sure you’re on top of everything and it’ll benefit you.

Angelica: A big shout out to Ms. Nappy, for answering late-night emails, answering emails on the weekends. Even during breaks, I would email her and she’d respond within a couple of minutes to a couple of hours, she’ll never go more than a day without answering your email. Big shout out to her; she definitely needs to get a gift at the end of the year for that! She made the process so smooth, I thought I had to do everything by myself. I was having a little anxiety at the beginning of the year because I have never done the college application process before. Like, I knew nothing about it, I knew nothing about scholarships, like zero-knowledge. But she did such a good job of filling us in with weekly emails. She did templates, she even drafted lists of colleges that would’ve benefited us due to our majors and our SAT scores. Just those little things helped immensely. I’m very grateful to her.

Q: Do you have any advice for any freshman or transfer students who are here at MVA for the first time?

Arleny: Take your schoolwork seriously and everything else would follow. Like, take these 4 years of high school seriously. Also, don’t be afraid to ask for help, like branch out and ask for help. Even though you’re meeting these teachers for the first time remotely and you really don’t know them, still ask for help because it will help you in the long run. Also, don’t get caught up in drama.

Angelica: Just be yourself! That’s my number one advice when someone comes to me looking for advice on high school. Just be a 100% yourself, I think people get caught up in stereotypes and portraying someone that they’re not. I’m telling you right now that from freshman to senior year it will unravel itself. You cannot put up an act for all those years it’s tiring on yourself and it gets all twisted. Just be yourself and you attract the people you want in your life, believe it or not. You don’t have to do too much, just stay true to yourself. Also to focus on your schoolwork, because these years are crucial. This is what gets you into college and affects your career. These years are prime time!

Q: Anything else you would like to talk about or make aware of to the MVA community or any last-minute advice?

Arleny: I have a lot of love for the MVA community. That’s where I spent the last four years working, doing school work, and staying on top of my game. Although it was stressful, there’s good coming out of it. I have friends that I’ll have for life, like a shout out to Angelica right here. She’s one of them. There’s always gonna be a support system, even if you don’t know them. Even if you do have someone that you know, but don’t want to confide in them, there is always someone else there to support you. SO, don’t be afraid. I’ll like to give a shout out to Ms. C. She was my support system. I was in her room 24/7; any minor little thing I’m running to her room

Angelica: I’m grateful for everyone watching this. All the teachers and staff have cultivated the whole senior class for college. Like, I could say right now that I’m 100% ready to go to college. I have the mental capacity to handle it. And that’s thanks to the workload that MVA gave us, and the teachers are great! Those students who are sad because they didn’t have the high school experience because of remote learning, you still have 2-3 years left and make it count! Please stay true to yourself
