📜 History: EcoLearners began as a small idea in February of 2021. Our founder, Sanjana Satagopan, “wanted to see real change right in front of [her] and wanted to take part in that.” This passion was born from her experiences in school and other organizations, where she realized that education on climate change issues was severely lacking. Sanjana decided to create EcoLearners in order to educate and inspire the youth to create change in their own communities. “Everyone can be passionate about the environment. You just need encouragement so I was like, what if I just do it myself?” she stated.

👩 Founders: In March of 2021, her idea finally blossomed. Sanjana reached out to our co-founders, Annika Chan and Emmy Yang, who helped her make the EcoLearners website. Shortly afterwards, Addison Affleck was recruited as Head of Social Media and the third co-founder. This original team has greatly enjoyed their experience at EcoLearners. Emmy was excited from the beginning to help educate people, and Annika was eager to help Sanjana and create an impact on youths and adults through this opportunity. Addison writes that “I want to retire in a world where I can lay in a field of flowers and look up at the sky and just be at peace with nature.” The four of them have continuously worked hard to ensure that Addison’s wish can become a reality for everyone in the future.

🌿 Growth: Since March, EcoLearners has grown substantially. 90+ people have joined our Discord server, and we have a team of 20+ working to make content. We have gained over 5,000 followers on Instagram, reached over 6000 people across 9 different countries, and have been recognized by multiple large organizations. Additionally, in just five months, we have partnered with several international organizations: Youthopiean, Aquarium Kids and Water 1st International. We have also partnered with College Petitions, an organization that operates within the United States. The petitions we have created are aimed towards mandating sustainable seafood in a partnership with Aquarium Kids and College Petitions. An exciting edition to our website and progress as an organization is our qualification as a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. We now can accept donations, with proceeds going towards marketing, securing sponsors for events, climate education within schools, website fees and other fees regarding domains and platforms of communication.
