Junior Striders 2018 Track Program Information

Required: Calumet Region Striders (CRS) Family Membership $15.00 + $30.00 Program Fee Per Person. Visit www.calstrider.org to join and see CRS’ Youth Programs.

Practices – Beginning the first week in May, please refer to the Junior Striders calendar on the Striders website for the most up-to-date information – you can attend as many practices a week as you would like

  • We will do our first couple of weeks at local parks to get some general conditioning as well as share information about the program with parents and kids
  • Beginning Mid-May, after we do a couple of weeks of conditioning - Monday’s Chesterton Middle School, Wednesday’s TBD, Thursday’s Colonel Wheeler Middle School(Crown Point)
  • We are planning on two Inter-squad meets tentatively scheduled in June – more details to follow but one will be in Porter County and the other in Lake County
  • Practices rain or shine (exception if lightening) – cancellations on Remind 101
  • Some announcements on Junior Striders Facebook – encourage to go in and “Add Friend” on the site
  • You should be training 4-5 days a week if you want to get in competitive shape – feel free to ask a coach for suggestions on what type of running/training you should be doing on non-practice days

Uniforms – optional but good to have for meets and can wear at other race events

  • Ordering information during first couple weeks of practice with orders needed in late May to have for meets in June – we will also have some other optional Strider wear available to order at that time

Volunteering – all of our coaches are volunteers and do not get paid – to keep costs down, we need parents to volunteer and help at one or more of the youth events during the season

Governing Bodies – what they are and costs – you need to qualify to advance to the next level

  • AAU – Annual $14 Membership Sept. 1 – Aug. 31 each year (Club code WYWB7B) - optional
  • District Qualifier meet June 23-24 at Pike High School in Indianapolis, IN
  • Regional Qualifier meet June 30 – July 1 at North Central High School in Indianapolis, IN(Track & Field) and July 7-8 at Memorial Stadium in Joliet, IL (Multi-events and Steeplechase)
  • Junior Olympics July 28 – August 4 at Drake University in Des Moines, IA

USATF – Annual $20 Membership from Jan. 1 – Dec. 31 each year (Club code 16-223) - optional

  • State meet June 16-17 at Ball State in Muncie, IN
  • Regional meet July 5 - 8 at Ball State in Muncie, IN
  • Junior Olympics July 23-29 in Greensboro, NC

Optional Events – all optional – you can participate as much or as little as you would like – there are many others

  • Road Races – Gold Cup series, sponsored races, local 5K’s (not recommended for kids under 7 years of age) – coaches not always available
  • We encourage kids to participate in the Gold Cup Series if possible – need to complete 5 races
  • Cost between $15 – $25, mostly on weekends, but some week days
  • Chick-Fil-A Youth Track Meet on May 26th at Guerin Catholic High School (near Indy)
  • Indiana State Athletic Club Invitational on June 2nd in Terre Haute North High School, IN
  • Midwest Youth Championships June 9th at Fishers High School (near Indy)
  • Extra Mile 1 Mile Challenge on July 12th in Valparaiso
