Come Run With Us
The Calumet Region Striders offer youth programs for kids ages 6 - 18 who are interested in running. It is for all levels of runners. We have two seasons: Track & Field (which includes field events, sprints, and distance) which goes from May - July and Cross Country which goes from September - November. We hold two practices a week in season in both Porter and Lake Counties. The programs include some inter-squad activities as well as information for optional competitive meets of which some members of the team typically competes. It is a great way to meet local kids in the area who share your interest in running and can definitely be done after your school season ends (for middle and high school age kids). The program fee is very reasonable (compared to other sports) at just $30 per season.
Coaches Cross Country National Information
The team will be attending the Coaches Cross Country National meet at E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park in Louisville, KY on Saturday, November 17th. There are several steps to complete to sign up so please make sure you read this entire memo. Please do the following: Obtain a 2018 YES (Youth Enduro Sports) membership. You can either set up your child and pay the membership and sign the waiver and let me know once you do and I will put them on the team or if you provide Beth Boyer email@example.com with your child’s birth date, grade, and name she will get them on the Strider team and will send you a return email telling you that is complete. Either way you need to visit www.runendurousa.com and find your child (if I set them up or if you have attended in the past) or enter your child if you are setting them up, pay the $10 membership fee (plus $1 process fee) and sign the parent waiver. Once you set up an account, look for your child under My Roster List – Student Rosters – Calumet Region Striders – YES Boys or Girls (whichever is applicable). At the top of the page select Parent Authorization, then select your child, hit process parent authorization, and fill in the requested information and the check boxes (if you attended in the past this step should already be done). Next select YES Athletic membership, then select you child, select process membership and pay. The fee to join YES is $10, and this membership runs through July of 2018.
We have secured a hotel room block at the Hilton Garden Inn Louisville East close to the course. The rate is $99/night for two double beds and the block is held until October 31st . The link to register http://cts.vresp.com/c/?CalumetRegionStrider/06cfdc0f54/713b475c0a/5af423c42f I know this is not a lot of time to get the hotel room booked but I would suggest even if you are thinking about going secure a room and you can always cancel a few days in advance if you decide not to come.
Due to their system, you are not able to sign up online for the National Meet. The meet cost is $20 per child. Please pay Beth or one of the head coaches as soon as possible. If you are writing a check, please make it to the Calumet Region Striders (CRS). We will be writing one check and Beth will take that in when she arrives in Louisville and picks up the packet. Please have your money turned in by Monday, November 12th.
We are planning to do the course walk throughs at Tom Sawyer in West Chester on Friday afternoon at 3:00 (please note they are on EST). We will plan to meet at the course by the start line and go in groups depending on your race distance. If you are able to make this, it is always nice to meet/get to know the others who are running with you and strategize on the course but it is not mandatory. After the walk throughs some of the kids get souvenir sweatshirts/T-shirts and that is often a good time to do that. If you do not want to take you child out of school all or part of the day on Friday that is completely fine to come later on Friday or even early Saturday morning.
The Striders are planning to have a team dinner on Friday evening around 6:00. More information to follow. At dinner or just after we will be handing out the bib numbers, reviewing the tent location, talking about what time to be there in the morning before you race, taking a picture and giving some other last minute instructions. For those of you who are unable to make it for dinner we will have the numbers at the hotel that evening and at the tent the next day.
