Jun Hyun Yun

About Me

My name is Jun Hyun Yun. I am an associate research fellow at the Korea Labor Institute. Guided by my conviction that social science, especially economics, is a highly practical discipline, I am a social scientist pursuing two complementary career paths in academic research and public policy and administration. 

On the research side, I conduct empirical microeconomic research in labor economics, public finance, health economics, and the economics of ageing. My research has been published in the Journal of Health Economics and the Hitotsubashi Journal of Economics, and I currently have a paper with a revise-and-resubmit decision at The Journal of the Economics of Ageing. 

On the policy and administration side, I have real-world experience in government policymaking and public administration. I worked full time for 2 years as an expert advisor at the Prime Minister’s Office of the Republic of Korea. I currently serve as a member of the Subcommittee on Review of Improper Receipt of Subsidies under the Subsidy Management Committee of the Ministry of Planning and Budget of the Republic of Korea.

I strongly believe that insights and intuitions from social science, particularly economics, can be helpful in creating a better world. In addition, I have a deep interest in history and philosophy, especially modern Korean history. It is my conviction that the humanities can deepen our understanding of society and suggest the right directions for how to use knowledge from social science to improve our world. 

Personally, I am a big fan of the LG Twins, a South Korean professional baseball team, which won the Korean Series in 1990, 1994, 2023, and 2025.
