FAIR FAMILY
Congratulations to Kobobel Family for being selected as the Fair Family for 2024! Three generations of the family have been involved and supported the fair in many ways over the years. Bill & Margaret were involved in 4-H and the Boulder County Fair for over 50 years. Their daughter Jenea DeQuasie is currently the Beef Superintendent, the first year Jenea showed at the Boulder County Fair was the last year the fair was held at Roosevelt Park. Jenea and John's children Devin and Alexzandria were involved in 4-H and Alex continues to support the fair as a volunteer along with the entire family at fair time. Check the web page for their complete bio.
PARKING INFO. FOR 4-H FAMILIES
Parking will be very challenging this year with nearly all of our livestock showing on the same days this year, as well as multiple grandstand events happening in the evening. We ask that our 4-H families follow these guidelines:
The areas behind Barns A, B and the Indoor Arena as well as west of the Exhibit Building are designated Exhibitor parking. While we won't be actively patrolling these lots, we will have signage up and we encourage you to park in these areas.
Carpooling! Please try to avoid having multiple cars per family at the fair. We are very limited in the number of spots, and once our parking fills up you will have to park in the public lots which take away a spot from the general public. If families require multiple cars, perhaps parking at Target or Home Depot and carpooling could be an option.
Trailer parking - If you need to leave your trailer at the fairgrounds during fair, you MUST drop it in the designated Trailer Lot behind the Humane Society. Any trailer left in the parking lot will be ticketed.
LIVESTOCK SALE
It is never too early to start sending letters and go out and meet up with potential buyers for your animal. Each youth participating in the sale should have engaged with at least 5 potential buyers before the fair. Local businesses and individuals love to support our 4-H youth, all you have to do is ask!

RECORD BOOKS ARE AVAILABLE
Record Books are Available!
The 2023-24 4-H record books (e-Records) are available to download! It is never too early to start recording your 4-H Information. They are on the Boulder County 4-H Web Page: https://boulder.extension.colostate.edu/4h/4-h-projects/ As well as the state 4-H pages along with lots of supporting info like tip sheets, fair info, animal ID, etc.
Livestock - http://co4h.colostate.edu/program-areas/animals/
General projects - http://co4h.colostate.edu/program-areas/fcs/
Also - http://co4h.colostate.edu/program-areas/creative-arts/
Download your record book(s) and save them to your computer. Many come in both Excel and PDF versions. PDF is easier, especially if you just have one project. But Excel supports copy and paste and is better for kids doing multiple projects. If it is saved to your computer, you can just update it throughout the year as you go. You can also always print them out and do them by hand - your choice.
Download one for each project, and 1 for every 4 livestock projects. (For example, cake decorating has its book, shooting sports has its book, etc. Livestock allows for 4 livestock projects to be combined in one book, so dairy goats, utility goats, poultry, rabbits, etc, can all be together.) Dog and horse have their books.
Happy Record Keeping!

4-H Dog Agility Classes
If you are enrolled in the 4-H Dog Project and this is your second or higher year of training, please join us for some fun with Dog Agility! The Agility training schedule is included in this newsletter. We are offering two classes: the first-hour class from 6-7 pm is for beginners who are still developing off-leash control with their pups. This will be more of a “fun” class to get our pups used to the obstacles and to get used to running the jumps and tunnels in sequence. The second-hour class from 7-8 pm is for members and dogs who competed in Agility last year OR for new participants and dogs that are reasonably under control when off-leash. The second-hour class will work on cueing, sequences, and crosses, and perfecting our pup’s skills on the jumps and tunnels. All classes will be held in the Indoor Arena on the dirt floor. Our County Fair 4-H Dog Agility Contest will be held on Wednesday, July 31st at 3 pm.

Team Benefit Open & 4-H Horse Show
To support travel expenses, the team will host a Team Benefit Open & 4-H Horse Show in the Indoor Arena at the Boulder County Fairgrounds in Longmont, Colo. on Saturday, July 27th. Any age and level of horses and riders are welcome. There are many ways to support these once-in-a-lifetime opportunities including showing, donating to the team, becoming a show sponsor, and donating or purchasing items in the silent auction. Visit our Facebook page @Boulder County 4-H Horse Judging Team or email bouldercountyhorsejudging@gmail.com to learn more.
Competitive horse judging offers an exciting and challenging opportunity for youth to further their knowledge of horses. Team members evaluate horse conformation and performance while developing critical thinking, public speaking, and team building skills. Contestants are scored based on how close their placings of mock classes are to the official panel. Then they deliver a two-minute, memorized oral defense of their placing of certain classes called reasons. The spring season will kick off in late January with a fun, informational night. Watch for the date and join us to learn more about the team and competitive horse judging!

SHOOTING SPORTS
SHOOTING SPORTS INFORMATION
2024 Shooting Sports Information & Updated Practice Schedule
To shoot at the Boulder County fair shoot-off in July, it is required to have a completed shooting card which includes: a safety class and 5 safe practices for each discipline with a certified 4-H shooting sports leader. You will receive a card when you complete the safety class. Present your card at each practice to get a signature from the 4-H certified shooting sports leader verifying each of the 5 safe practices. A safety class in each discipline MUST be completed before you can shoot in that discipline. Contact Lisa Wallace ASAP if you have questions, need a safety class, OR a Hunters Safety Card.
To compete at the BCF Shoots in July you must have completed a Hunters Education Class and this card must be uploaded to your 4honline account by the BCF shoot. You must also present this card in hand on the day of the shoot along with your completed safe practice card at each discipline you're shooting.
Once you have secured your Hunters Education card you must pre-register for each discipline you plan to shoot in July for the BCF Shoot offs. A shooter letter will be sent to each family enrolled in a shooting sports project in mid-June. Links to pre-register for each discipline will be within the letter, make sure you register for all classes, and all disciplines you're enrolled in and would like to shoot before the early July deadline.
All shooting sports members must also exhibit at least 1 shooting sports exhibit at the BCF in August. This entry must go through the BCF website's general projects page. An exhibit may be a show board; a stand-alone project or a decorative item that includes a completed record book at the time of interview judging check-in on August 1st. You will need to pre-register your exhibit(s) by July 11th. Then watch for the Signup Genius to schedule your interview & judging time.
