Hi there! My name is Julia Rose Roberts, and I am earning my M.A. in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Montclair State University in Summer 2019. This portfolio was designed as a means of organizing the knowledge I acquired in my graduate program's Language Disorders in School-Age Children course (completed in Fall 2018), and as a means of showcasing my coursework. I think it serves not only as a testament to my knowledge, but to my thoughtfulness, meticulousness, and strong written communication skills. The contents of this e-portfolio also demonstrate that I possess the foundations to excel as a school-based speech-language pathologist in a variety of educational environments.
I plan to adhere to an evidence-based, client-centered approach in my professional practice, but I also understand the importance of collaborating with students' families. One aspect of employment in a school-based setting that I find particularly exciting is the possibility of working with teachers and other staff to potentially help structure wider curricula such that not only those students with the most severe language disabilities are best served, but such that all students might receive speech and language services as appropriate if these services might help them to succeed. I believe that working with the school-age population should prove as functional for students beyond the therapy room as possible, and that it should be both beneficial and fun!
I hope you enjoy perusing my e-portfolio!
