FEATURE | JSLs celebrate 9th anniFURsary with animal shelter visit, donation
By: M.A.
On August 6, 2022, welcomed by thrilled woofs and meows, the Jonaxx Stories Lovers, the fandom of the renowned Filipino author Jonaxx, celebrated their fandom’s anniversary by donating food and supplies, as well as volunteering at Animal Rescue PH, an animal shelter located in San Miguel, Bulacan, that cares for over 200 abandoned and rescued animals.
The #JSLs9thAnniFURsary was a culmination of months of planning by the JSL Philanthropic Program, which hosted cause-selling programs and arranged donation drives, resulting in animal treats, sacks of dog food, and 50 kilograms of rice. The organization also acknowledged in-kind donations from J&N Petshop and Sky Merch (bbskymerch), merchandise from JSL Dumaguete that was sold, and the free tarpaulin layout by Dunggay Arts.
During the visit, the volunteers sat down with the shelter co-founder, Mrs. Luzviminda Anne Morales, who shared the emotional journey behind the shelter foundation. What started as an act of empathy for stray animals has bloomed into something bigger—a physical haven for animals. Mrs. Morales has also admitted to the challenge that they find it hard to attract volunteers due to the shelter’s location. That’s why the project was more than just a one-day visit; it was a ray of hope for them. The Animal Rescue PH team expressed their immense gratitude to the volunteers and the whole JSL community who extended their help and heard their plea for help and support.
As the day neared its end, both the volunteers and animals felt full—volunteers with the joy of choosing compassion over confetti, and the animals with full bellies. The JSL fandom, a community built out of love for Jonaxx Stories, has written their own, as they proved that stories are not just meant to be read, but can also be lived out.
UPDATE | Hygiene supplies dropped off for tropical depression Agaton victims
By: M.A.
On April 20, 2022, the JSL Philanthropic Program successfully dropped off hygiene supplies for tropical depression Agaton victims at San Miguel, Bulacan, during a campaign rally for the Leni-Kiko tandem.
Through the donation drive arranged by San Migueleños Para Sa San Miguel (SMPSSM), the JSL Philanthropic Program launched its very first mini-project through a donation drop-off for the victims of #AgatonPH in Visayas. The in-kind donations included four packs of sanitary pads, three packs of panty liners, five packs of cotton buds, 24 sachets of shampoo, two packs of soap, three bottles of small alcohols, six sachets of deodorant for men, and six sachets of deodorant for women. In addition to these, the organization also received bath supplies from Ms. Sofia Mye through a Shopee purchase, which included six toothbrushes, one toothpaste for kids, and two bundles of soap.
The money used to buy the groceries was raised through a cause raffle that ran from April 14, 2022, to April 22, 2022, in which the prize was the Baka Sakali Pop Fiction Trilogy. All in-kind donations collected by SMPSSM will be sent to either the Office of the Vice President or the National Headquarters in Katipunan. As a newly established nonprofit organization, they have considered this a successful project.
We thank everyone who had the heart to help. Rest assured that your donations will reach the people in need.
