JRiver Media Center is a multimedia application that allows the user to play and organize various types of media on a computer running Windows, macOS, or Linux operating systems. Developed by JRiver, Inc., it is offered as shareware.

JRiver Media Center is a "jukebox"-style media player, like iTunes, which usually uses most of the screen to display a potentially very large library of files. Features include the ability to rip and burn CDs, static and dynamic playlists, and plugins such as Audioscrobbler and G-Force visualization. Regular (usually daily beta) builds are posted on the Media Center Interact forum implementing requested features and fixing reported bugs. The forum has an active member community, with more than 56,000 members[2] as of 2021.

Information relating to media is imported into the library, including meta data for media files and the path to the media files. The media files themselves are not contained in the database, but cataloged within the libraries.

Version 12 of JRiver Media Center added support for auto-importing of media, whereby JRiver Media Center continually watches designated directories for changes in media. If a new file is dropped into the directory, JRiver Media Center will add the file to its library. Each library can contain any type of media, video, audio, images etc.

Balcy, did you try NePLAYER on ios with the iDSD Micro. I don't have the iDSD Micro (yet, but i'm interested) but have neplayer. neplayer shows the bitrate of the source audio file but downsamples it to 44,1kHz without the company's DAC. I'm not sure if it is compatible with 3rd party dacs like the micro, but you'll love it if it does. Outside, i take my seagate wireless plus disk which has some hi-res files and stream it to neplayer. i can't recomend the DLNA server on the seagate as it is sometimes begins scanning and indexing from the very start every time you take it on. But when it works, the two works like a charm. Unlike any other streaming app i've tried, neplayer doesn't drop out playing (within the wireless range of course). i also have jremote app with jriver. it plays back fine up to 96kHz. i don't have evidence but i think neplayer playbacks with less timing errors than the others

Since it is a "media" player, it includes many functions that may not apply to recording engineers: image galleries, video playback, network player, home theatre, etc. I consider those to be all bonuses. I really like that mix engineers can plug a USB drive into my computer and audition a 24bit, 96 kHz file without converting and importing it into a DAW session. Media Center also makes a great party shuffler that uses high-quality sources as opposed to lossy compressed files. I don't know how I got along without this on my PC. And now Mac users can get in on the fun. A free, 30-day demo is available for download.

I noticed inmediately that the sound on my Sennheiser HD650 Headphone had much improved, voices more in the front, more present, voices of backing voices much more differentiated. It gave me the impression that I had been present during the recording in the studio.

My experience is to not experience with filters at all, I have had my bad experiences with Room Settings and calibration with special calibration software and microphones. Until I found out that setting my (high end) amp to bypass resulted in taking away a thick curtain and fatigue immediately disappeared. I was able to listen only a few minutes, and the fatige was unbearable. But that is another story. I also used once a VST filter in JRiver Media Center. I removed it, and the sound was back as I wanted. That specific VST filter was meant to flatten the frequence curve of my Headphone. I don't listen to music with presumed logic (a straight frequency curve, based on measurements, is). Plain vanilla, default settings. But the very postive change in listening experience of the sampling rate to 88.2 surprised me big, I can assure you.

i think lol lets just say before i upgraded to jriver 31 from 29 if i choose to select jriver when i was on roon it would automatically go to jriver and play the music i selected from roon ,now one thing you must know about me i like to have choices so i can try different things, its fun for

me and stops boredom issues, regards David

well guess what it stopped again, i will try checking and unchecking the box and i need to say that when useing it before the system would totally switch over to jriver now it shows that its play from jriver while still in roon, hope that makes since for you

The combination of MPC-HC and LAV Filters enabled us to play back all our media files without issues. However, the user interface is not really amenable to a media center experience. XBMC, undoubtedly, has set the gold standard for the HTPC user interface. It is possible to go through hoops to make XBMC use MPC-HC and LAV filters for media playback, but the XBMC UI is lost during playback.

XBMC's internal playback engine incorporates DXVA capability also. It works very well for most common media files (standard TV broadcast recordings and Blu-ray/DVD re-encodes in MPEG-2 / MPEG-4 / H.264). However, interlaced VC-1 clips pose a challenge even with DXVA disabled.
