This learning menu is created for you to further explore the Civil Rights movement and key figures. You have 7 tasks to complete in total, you need to spend a minimum of an hour on each one per week. On weeks where you would have two lessons, you are required to complete 2 hours of work. This is in line with your teaching hours for History. Make sure to complete all tasks.

Create a timeline of the Civil Rights Movement. Starting with the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863 and ending in 1970. Add key events from the movement along your timeline.
Use the following video clips and webpages to read around the topic. Make notes on your findings.
Find evidence throughout the 1950s and 1960s of examples of things that remained the same (continuity) and things which changed. Place examples in your table.
Once completed, write a paragraph to show whether there was more continuity or change during the time period. Give evidence to support your answer.
Complete a piece of research exploring the Civil Rights campaigns and the Black Power Movement:
Find examples of prominent Civil Rights and Black Power campaigners and groups
Establish their aims and actions
Explain the difference between the Civil Rights Movement and the Black Power Movement
Make notes of their achievements
How effective were they in achieving their aims?
