Class overview:
The Versatility Ranch Horse competition promotes the athletic ability and versatility of the horse, which is demonstrated through multiple classes. These classes may include ranch riding, ranch trail, ranch reining, and ranch conformation.
VRH Ranch Riding: Horses show individually, and this class can be conducted in or outside of the arena. The horse should be relaxed, responsive to cues, and travel with a soft cadenced gait. Transitions should be smooth and correct with the horse soft in the bridle, yielding to contact.
VRH Ranch Trail: This class tests the horse and rider as they maneuver through a pattern including obstacles that would be encountered during everyday ranch work. Horses should be responsive and well-mannered as they navigate the course in a correct efficient manner.
VRH Ranch Reining: Ranch reining measures the ability of the horse to perform basic handling maneuvers. Horses should be willingly guided with little or no apparent resistance.
VRH Ranch Conformation: Horses should be balanced, structurally correct, and have adequate muscle. Horses will be shown in a good condition working halter - rope, nylon, or plain leather. Handlers will show their horse at a walk, trot, and then line up for inspection.
Head: Riders will wear a western hat that is in good condition.
Hair: Riders must have their hair pulled back, often in a ponytail or bun.
Shirt: Riders will wear a Western shirt, usually to match
their pad/outfit to create an aesthetic image while being judged.
Pants: Riders will wear jeans with chaps
Boots: Riders will wear western boots that are in good condition.
Gloves: Gloves are not commonly worn while showing in versatility ranch horse

Bridle: Riders may use any western bridle or bosal
Saddle: Riders may use any western saddle in good condition.
Saddle pad: Riders may use a western show pad, usually matching their outfit to make an aesthetic image while being judged
Leg protection is not commonly worn during versatility ranch horse.
