Can anyone recommend a good joystick testing app for DOS? For some reason the right thumbstick on my 360 controller won't work and i'd like to play through some configuration scenarios. I'd need some program to show axis and button status (including analog throttles and rudder controls), possibly for all joysticktypes supported by DOSBox.
Agh. I need to test the inputs in DOS, not in Win 9x. I thought i made that clear in the original post. There is no mapper file. I know how to properly use the mapper anyway, thank you very much. robermo, why don't you just refrain from typing when you have nothing useful to say?

But if you set joysticktype=4axis all four axes should work (at least they do on normal joysticks/pads). I think xbox360 pad has 6 axes. Each trigger is a separate axe, and are detected as axe first and axe second.
left stick is axes 3rd and 4th.
So right stick will not work as the right stick is axe 5th and 6th

Disruption of the interosseous membrane is easily missed in patients with Essex-Lopresti syndrome. None of the imaging techniques available for diagnosing disruption of the interosseous membrane are completely dependable. We undertook an investigation to identify whether a simple intra-operative test could be used to diagnose disruption of the interosseous membrane during surgery for fracture of the radial head and to see if the test was reproducible. We studied 20 cadaveric forearms after excision of the radial head, ten with and ten without disruption of the interosseous membrane. On each forearm, we performed the radius joystick test: moderate lateral traction was applied to the radial neck with the forearm in maximal pronation, to look for lateral displacement of the proximal radius indicating that the interosseous membrane had been disrupted. Each of six surgeons (three junior and three senior) performed the test on two consecutive days. Intra-observer agreement was 77% (95% confidence interval (CI) 67 to 85) and interobserver agreement was 97% (95% CI 92 to 100). Sensitivity was 100% (95% CI 97 to 100), specificity 88% (95% CI 81 to 93), positive predictive value 90% (95% CI 83 to 94), and negative predictive value 100%). This cadaveric study suggests that the radius joystick test may be useful for detecting disruption of the interosseous membrane in patients undergoing open surgery for fracture of the radial head and is reproducible. A confirmatory study in vivo is now required.

I think the windows device manager joystick applet only supports 32 buttons. Probably when they designed the interface they though no one will ever use more than 32 buttons! As for the game I am not sure, have you tried other games? I am sure DirectX supports 128 buttons, so it would depend on the game/programmer, how they access the controller, and how many buttons/axis they want to support.
I know this discussion is a bit old but just got to pass on that it is an awesome little program. I recently built a control input with 65 inputs for a set of flight sims but no software was registering anything above 32.Came across this and downloaded it after a number of other failed softwares and it shows all the inputs! First time I have been able to test that my soldering is good enough.As this bit of software detects the buttons, the next step would be to adapt it to act as a keyboard emulator as well so that we can assign keystrokes to the buttons. The market is sorely lacking a simple 128 input controller interface software. I would definitely pay for such a program as I have tried all the other popular ones with no success.Would anybody know of such a software?

There is also an application called jstest-gtk, which seems to do something like that, I post here a screenshot and the link for you: -gtk (This software may need to be compiled in order to make it work)
These are two tools included in the Ubuntu repositories that I have not tested recently (I found these when looking for other options). The first of the two, jstest-gtk, is a graphical tool, and joystick is a set of commandline utilities.
I'm using Ubuntu 13.04 and have Logitech Rumblepad 2. And what I did was installing these, joystick and jstest-gtk. It's already been calibrate to default and joystick device is detected right. Just plug and play.
Any controller you could connect to your computer can be checked with this test. Don't be fooled by the visual style of the controller illustration - a switch joy con or third-party controllers would work just as well.
I bought some retro C64 joysticks for which I doubt that all buttons work correctly, e.g. acceleration in a car racing game does not work as expected. I assume it interprets one of the digital buttons as an analog value so the game accelerates with a certain percentage only.
This displays Game Controllers window where you can see your joystick/gamepad/steering wheel/whatever... and by pressing the button below the list, you can view current input on all device axes and buttons.
I have been playing with the 2020 Labview Linx toolkit recently and wanted to use a Raspberry Pi in a project to revive an old FRC robot from the Crio days so it can be used for demonstrations without having to connect to a base PC. I just wanted to have a generic HID joystick like the Logitech F710 plug in to the Raspberry Pi USB and run the LV realtime code when the battery is plugged in.
