At their core, Teen Suicide is the most "indie rock" of Ray's projects and in that form, they write poignant song-sketches that can traffic in sarcasm ("it's not art unless you laugh, one of these days I'm gonna laugh") and have a poignant sweetness ("Falling Out of Love With Me"). But the lo-fi recording quality serving as Celebration's binding agent has a far greater effect the further Teen Suicide get away from guitars. The resplendent piano rolls of "I Don't Think It's Too Late" and "The Stomach of the Earth" are slightly scuffed and distorted, like a tear-stained take on the Range's recent emotronica. "My Little World" touches on Aphex Twin's early ambient work, while the crackle surrounding the harps and strings on "V.I.P." carry the haunted-house eeriness of the Caretaker's Victrola memory experiments. It's hard to think of any album, probably ever, that managed to sound like these three and Sparklehorse in the same hour.

The following year George played his Concert For Bangladesh, and in 1974 George toured North America on what was billed The Dark Horse Tour, which heralded the launch of his record label and album of the same name.

To which we would agree. For most of us, it was impossible to be there, but Live In Japan is a wonderfully uplifting document that combines the best of a greatest hits album with the immediacy and freshness of a live performance. Put it on now and marvel at two guitar heroes who both love what they do and take pleasure in sharing their music.

Sensational gospel ensemble Joyous Celebration has stood the test of time, releasing albums annually and consistently breaking boundaries in the recording industry with their live performances and DVD and CD recordings.

3. First album recorded

Joyous Celebration Volume 1 was recorded at DownTown Studios in Johannesburg after their very first concert, which was not recorded live. This was to thank the Lord for a smooth transition from the apartheid era into democracy. It was supposed to be a one-off show but people wanted more music. That is when the founding members got together and decided to go into studio to record the very first album, which they named Joyous Celebration. be457b7860
