For seven years, Ava and Mason have been sharing their lives online, building a community of 2.2 million followers on their video-sharing YouTube channel. What started as a casual way to document their day-to-day has turned into a full-time gig they never saw coming.

In this interview, they talk about how it all began, the ideas behind their challenges and pranks, and how they balance being open with their fans while keeping some things private. Plus, they share some tips for anyone thinking about starting their own YouTube journey.

You've been in the vlogging business for more than seven years now, but how did you first decide to start vlogging your daily life?

Ava: It all started pretty casually. We were just documenting our lives for fun and sharing it with friends and family. But then, more people started watching, and we thought, why not make this a regular thing?

Mason: Yeah, it was pretty organic. We never really planned for it to become what it is today. We just enjoyed making videos together and sharing our experiences.

Ava, the video where you had Mason's little brother be mean to you from a couple of years ago was a hit. If I'm correct, that one has been one of your most popular videos. How do you come up with ideas for your challenges and pranks?

Mason: Oh man, yeah, that one was fun! Well, we usually brainstorm together. Sometimes, we get inspiration from other creators, but a lot of it comes from our own experiences and what we think would be entertaining for our viewers.

Ava: And we always try to keep it light and fun. We want our audience to feel like they’re part of our journey, not just watching from the sidelines.

Speaking of your audience, your videos are relatable because you tackle topics that resonate with many people's everyday experiences, but how do you balance sharing personal moments while maintaining some privacy?

Ava: We definitely have boundaries. We share a lot, but there are certain moments we keep just for us. It’s all about finding that balance and being mindful of what we’re comfortable putting out there.

Mason: Exactly. We want to be authentic, but we also want to protect our family’s privacy. It’s a fine line, but we think we’ve found a good balance.

As a content creator, you're expected to come up with new ideas to keep your content fresh and engaging. How do you manage to do that?

Mason: We try to mix things up and keep it interesting. Whether it’s a new challenge, a family outing, or just a day in our lives, we always look for new ways to connect with our audience.

Ava: And we listen to our viewers. Their feedback is super important to us. They often give us great ideas for new content.

Circling back to your prank videos, I must say, they are hilarious. However, it feels like the situations you drive each other into create some sort of tension between you two in the heat of the moment. Do you ever worry about taking things too far?

Mason: We always make sure to set some ground rules before we do any pranks. We never want to hurt each other or make anyone uncomfortable.

Ava: And we always talk about it afterward to make sure we’re both okay with what happened. Communication is key.

Looking back at your older videos, how do you feel you’ve evolved as content creators?

Ava: We’ve definitely grown a lot. Our editing skills have improved, and we’ve learned a lot about what works and what doesn’t. But at the core, we’re still the same couple just having fun together.

Mason: Yeah, it’s been a learning process. We’ve made mistakes along the way, but we’ve also had a lot of successes. It’s all part of the journey.

What has been the most rewarding part of sharing your life on YouTube?

Ava: For me, it’s the community we’ve built. Our viewers are amazing, and their support means the world to us.

Mason: I agree. It’s incredible to see how many people we’ve connected with. Knowing that our videos can bring a smile to someone’s face or help them through a tough day is really rewarding.

Lastly, do you have any advice for couples thinking about starting their own YouTube channel?

Ava: Just be yourselves. Authenticity is so important. Don’t try to be someone you’re not.

Mason: And have fun with it! If you’re not enjoying the process, it will show in your videos. Keep it light, keep it fun, and the rest will follow.
