Joshua Goldberg is a junior and is part of the G/T Intern/Mentor program. Through this program, Joshua is conducting research under the guidance of Dr. Annette Hanson, a forensic psychiatrist at Clifton T. Perkins, a maximum security psychiatric hospital. She also gives lectures in the courthouse located in downtown Baltimore. Joshua is doing research on the criminal responsibility of people who plead insanity due to ingredients in dietary supplements and the effects of caffeine on the body. He is focusing his research specifically on the effects of caffeine on the prevention of Parkinson’s disease and the negative effects of the drug when used in dietary supplements. He is sending out an anonymous questionnaire to his peers to asses effects of caffeine-containing energy drinks and pre workout supplements on children aged 15-18. Joshua will analyze this data with the aggression scale, a verified method to determine if there is a correlation between caffeine consumption and aggression with the end goal of creating public health announcement to be presented in relevant classes at River Hill.
