Project: Workforce Dashboard
Objective:
To build a dynamic and scalable dashboard for visualizing and analyzing workforce-related data, enabling better planning for gender equality initiatives and succession strategies.
Context:
Electro Sur Este S.A.A. (ELSE) is an electricity distribution company operating in the southern regions of Peru, with over 11 offices across the departments of Cusco, Apurímac, and Madre de Dios. The Human Resources team needed a centralized tool to visualize the distribution and characteristics of employees, including gender, age, education level, and years of experience, to support decision-making in areas such as talent development, gender balance, and succession planning.
Tools & Technologies Used:
Power BI – Dashboard design and visualization
SQL Server – Data storage and transformation
Process Overview:
ETL Development: A customized ETL pipeline was created to extract only non-sensitive personnel data from administrative systems (excluding salary or payment details).
Data Cleaning & Validation: During transformation, inconsistencies were corrected—e.g., incomplete gender fields, missing department assignments, and incorrect birthdates.
Data Warehousing: Cleaned data was stored in an analytical database designed to offload queries from operational systems and support business intelligence needs.
Historical Structuring: Since operational systems only retained current data, the analytical data model was designed to capture monthly snapshots to support time-series and historical comparisons.
Scheduled Automation: The ETL process was implemented as a stored procedure on the SQL Server and scheduled to run during off-peak hours to ensure system performance.
Data Modeling in Power BI: A logical data model was built, and DAX measures were used to analyze trends and segment the workforce across multiple dimensions.
Dashboard Creation: The Power BI dashboard visualized key workforce metrics, providing clear insights by office location, age group, education level, and gender.
Key Insights & Recommendations:
Recommended the integration of additional data sources (e.g., employee satisfaction surveys or performance evaluations) to enrich the analysis.
Suggested the inclusion of education level metrics to support future learning and development programs.
Encouraged linking this dashboard with diversity and inclusion KPIs to drive targeted HR initiatives.
Visualizations Included:
Headcount distribution by region, age, and gender
Education level and years of experience heatmaps
Historical workforce trend analysis
Gender balance ratio by department
Dataset:
Due to confidentiality agreements, the dataset and final report cannot be publicly shared. All assets are the property of Electro Sur Este S.A.A.
