Project: Operational KPI Monitoring and Target Evaluation Dashboard
Objective:
To develop centralized dashboards that enable continuous monitoring and evaluation of key operational performance indicators (KPIs) at company-wide, regional, and business-unit levels.
Context:
Electro Sur Este S.A.A. (ELSE) is a Peruvian electric utility company operating in the southern regions of Cusco, Apurímac, and Madre de Dios. As part of its strategic and operational planning, the company required a robust system to monitor various operational KPIs—both commercial (e.g., customer request response time, complaint resolution time) and field operations (e.g., outage handling, scheduled maintenance). The goal was to integrate this information into a single platform for better insight and to facilitate performance evaluation against established targets.
Tools & Technologies Used:
Power BI – Data modeling and visualization
SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) – ETL processes
SQL Server Data Tools (SSDT) – Data transformation
Visual Studio – Development and deployment
Process Overview:
Phase 1 – Operational KPI Dashboard
Data Source Integration: Collected operational and commercial data from multiple distributed databases.
ETL Development: Designed and implemented an automated ETL process to extract, transform, and load data using SSIS and SSDT.
Data cleansing and error correction during transformation.
Only new or modified records were loaded to the analytical database to ensure efficiency and avoid duplication.
Data Warehousing: Processed data was stored in an analytical database to reduce the load on operational systems.
Scheduling: The ETL process was scheduled to run during non-peak hours to avoid performance degradation of core systems.
Power BI Dashboard: Data was imported into Power BI, where a logical data model was created and DAX measures were used to generate insights.
Phase 2 – Target Evaluation Dashboard
Created a secondary Power BI dashboard focused on performance evaluation against targets for each KPI.
Dashboards provided both a high-level overview and detailed drill-down views by region and business unit.
Key Insights & Recommendations:
Suggested the inclusion of additional KPIs for broader performance coverage.
The centralized dashboard allowed managers to prioritize attention on underperforming indicators, enhancing decision-making.
Recommended continuous improvement of the ETL pipeline to adapt to evolving data needs.
Visualizations Included:
KPI overview cards by business unit and region
Time-series analysis of KPI trends
Compliance gauges for target evaluation
Drill-down views for operational activities
Dataset:
Due to confidentiality agreements, the dataset and reports are not publicly available. All work and materials are proprietary to Electro Sur Este S.A.A.
