Hi! My name is Jorge Ramos (aka Jorge S. Ramos) and I am a philosopher of science. I am an FPU [Formación de Profesorado Universitario] doctoral researcher at the Department of Logic, History and Philosophy of Science at UNED. I am also a member of METIS research group and NATE research project.
My research is focused on characterising the metaphysics of biology as an autonomous field within general metaphysics of science. I am currently studying the scientific practices of the different biological subareas to consider what they may and may not tell about the world. I am also revising the current debate about the proliferation of definitions of life on the 21st century and what to do with them.
Besides being a philosopher, I am a telecommunications engineer too. I try to blend this knowledge in my thesis, in the intersection of metaphysics of biology, informatics, and mathematics. For example, I explore the implications that computational tools widely used in biology, such as bio-ontologies or (multi-)omics data analyses yield metaphysically speaking.
I am currently coordinating the PhD BioKoinos-METIS Seminar 25/26. For more info, click here.
I am part of the organising committee of the XIV Philosophy of Biology and Cognitive Sciences Workshop (XIV PBCS) that will be held at UNED (Madrid), 18-19 June 2026.
