Welcome!
I am Jordan Daigle and this is my e-portfolio, designed to showcase my journey to complete my Master's of Educational Technology and Design through the University of Saskatchewan. My previous two Bachelor degrees in both Science and Education from the University of Prince Edward Island, prepared me for the early years of my teaching career, and pursuing a Master's felt like the natural next step. Prior to beginning my Master's degree, and through out the process of earning the degree, I worked as a Math and PAA (Practical and Applied Arts) Teacher for grades 7 through 12.
My approach in the classroom is based on a constructivist teaching philosophy, with an emphasis on technology integration. I passionately believe that modern technology, such as computers and even cell phones, are rich resources that are currently being under utilized, particularly in math classes. I have integrated cell phones into my classes in numerous ways. I currently use them and Desmos in place of the traditional graphing calculators and have had students use their phones to collect data on distance, speed and acceleration for a myth busting project.
I am also very interested in the gamification of education and as part of one of my masters courses I started to create a gamified website for math enrichment. You can find that site linked below. I have also tried to implement a number of projects over the years that were based around topics which my students were interested in. The projects have ranged from creating a 9 hole mini-golf course which a non profit now runs as a business. We have also created a plan for what we would do at the school in the event of a zombie apocalypse and have designed tiny homes. I was also one of the first classes in my division to bring in the robotic curriculum into my middle years PAA survey course.
