BACKGROUND

Jonathan H. Slavin, Ph.D., ABPP, is a psychologist and psychoanalyst in private practice in Newton Highlands, Massachusetts and with patients worldwide on-line.

His experience includes more than 3 decades as Director of the Tufts University Counseling Center, overseeing counseling and psychotherapy services to more than 25,000 clients and training for hundreds of mental health professionals.

In addition, Dr. Slavin served twice as the President of the Division of Psychoanalysis (39) of the American Psychological Association. He was the Founding President of the Massachusetts Institute for Psychoanalysis, and served as Vice-President of the International Association for Relational Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Slavin teaches therapists and psychoanalysts, consults, conducts workshops, and lectures across the United States and several countries around the world (Israel, Palestinian Authority, Russia, China, Canada, Armenia, Turkey, Romania, Italy, Mexico, and the United Kingdom).

Dr. Slavin is on the faculty of the Massachusetts Institute for Psychoanalysis, and is Clinical Instructor in Psychology, Department of Psychiatry, Harvard Medical School, and Adjunct Clinical Professor, New York University, Postdoctoral Program in Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis.

Dr. Slavin also serves as a Consulting Psychologist to the Ministry of Health, State of Israel, and the mental health staff of the Israel Defence Forces. He has served most recently as Visiting Lecturer at the Tel-Aviv University School for Psychotherapy; The Cleveland Psychoanalytic Center: the Chicago Psychoanalytic Institute; Northwestern University School of Medicine; The Hebrew University, Jerusalem; Istanbul Bilgi University; the New Mexico Psychoanalytic Society; the University of Turin and Turin Psychoanalytical Center; the National Institute for the Psychotherapies, New York; the School for Comparative Psychotherapy, Florence, Italy; the Toronto Institute for Contemporary Psychoanalysis; and the University of Oxford.

Dr. Slavin’s published work has focused on fundamental human elements in the treatment process including love, sexuality, desire, truthfulness, and their role in the repair of disrupted experiences of personal agency in the patient's life.
