Building a brighter future for everyone.
Working with educators, support staff, Education Assistants, parents and students to be in a safe and healthy learning environment.
My name is Jon Nishimura and I am running for CBE trustee in wards 8 & 9. Being a single parent, my son and I have been ward 8 & 9 residents for the past 15 years. He graduated from Central Memorial High School in 2021. Long walks in Calgary's plentiful parks and enjoying nature, get togethers with friends and dinners out with my partner are just a few of the ways I spend my spare time.
Our entire education system needs an overhaul, no matter which political party is in office.
I'm a born and raised Calgarian, public education is in my DNA. My mother, Lynn, was named Educator of the year in the early 90's before being elected as ATA local president as well a CBE trustee herself. Seeing first hand the long hours and passion that she brought to her career has inspired me to continue her legacy and commitment to education. Seeing kids succeed in both class and community is a major goal. They need a welcoming and safe environment to do so.
As a single parent, I know all too well how much school fees are and can be hard on folks. The cap on the fee waiver income should be increased so that more families can qualify.
After chatting with current students and recent grads, parents and grandparents, the bullying issue seems to be a serious problem that needs to be addressed. Alternative action to curb this vital. I am open to suggestions. DM any ideas you may have and I will consider each one. We need new ways of dealing with the ongoing bullying problem
Transparency is vital. Concerns have been brought up about this. Phone calls and emails will be answered personally and quickly. In person meetings will be made to address any problem that arrives to me.
Let's talk IPP's. Is your kid getting the support they need? If you're a student, are you getting the what is laid out in in your IPP? I want to hear from you all. IPP followed consistently throughout entire education

I was born in Mohkinstsis (in Blackfoot); Wîchîspa (in Stoney); or Guts’ists’i (in Tsuut’ina), home of the Blackfoot Nations, Lyarhe-Nakoda Nations, Tsuut’ina Nation, it is also home to the historic Northwest Métis and to the Otipemisiwak (Oti-pe-mes-se-wa) Métis Government, Métis Nation Battle River Territory (Nose Hill Métis District 5 and Elbow Métis District 6).
We live, play and work on the lands of the Niitsítapi which is the Blackfoot Confederacy. Blackfoot south of the border are the Blackfeet, north of the border, the Siksika (Blackfoot), Kainai (Blood), and Piikani (Peigan) of the confederacy. We are on Treaty 7, signed Sept. 22 1877, with signatures that include the Blackfoot Confederacy, The Wesley, Chiniki and Bearspaw Nations of the Stoney Nations, and the Dene from Tsuut’ina (Sarcee) Nation. I acknowledge all First Nations, Metis, Inuit, status and non status, that cover Turtle Island, are the true keepers of these lands. We are all Treaty partners with the government or crown signing for us all, and should honour those treaties with respect and truth.
