If not by rote memorization, then how do we teachchildren how to read (and remember) high-frequency words that are not easilydecoded? The most important thing toremember is that to use the phonics knowledge that the children already have.

Variation 1: Player ONE throws a small stone or a beanbag into a square. He must then say the tricky word (help the player if needed) and then hop on one foot to the first empty square.
